Pregnant after a Loss

Updated: Progesterone suppositories: applicator or finger?

My pharmacy only gave me one applicator for the progesterone sups, and you're not supposed to use those things over and over again. So, I've been using my finger to get it where it needs to go. Am I putting myself at risk of infection by doing this? Of course I'm washing my hands like a surgeon both before and after doing it. But it just occurred to me that maybe only sterile things should be going up there right now.

ETA: I just realized that if I had intercourse right now, that would be far from sterile, so a clean finger is nothing! I guess I just outed myself that I haven't DTD since the FW!

  • Finger. It's gross, but I do wash my hands before and after each time. I didn't feel like the tablet sat in the applicator very well, and I could easily see myself dropping it on the floor and wasting valuable medicine. :)

  • I've used my finger in the past, but with this pregnancy the type I was prescribed came with an applicator. It was 100 times better! If the  drugstore can give you more applicators, I would totally ask for them.

  • Finger.  Like you said - definitely no less sterile than foreplay or intercourse!

  • I ordered Preseed applicators off Amazon. I didn't feel like I was getting the pill up there far enough with my finger, because I had tons of leakage. If you do go the applicator route, though, be careful not to bump your cervix like I did. I'm pretty sure that's what caused the pink streak on my TP--and my heart attack.
It was a rough road, but Arlo Daniel was born April 1, 2013—and our second rainbow is due October 12, 2014.

I do this too!  They work like a charm.  My RE did say that the applicator can cause spotting though, I guess baccuse of how high up it gets the pills.
