I began having sacroiliac joint pains 2 weeks ago. I delivered my daughter 2 days ago and had hoped it would just disappear with delivery. My doctor had kind of made me think this way. Well 2 days later I still can barely walk. I have made an appointment with a chiropractor for Monday, but I am just wondering what your experiences were if you had to deal with this.
THANKS!
Re: If you had sacroiliac joint issues pregnant....
mine seemed alot better after I delivered I was a little sore 3 weeks pp so I went and got an adjustment. Well I am not 10 weeks pp and starting to have some issues. But I just quit breastfeeding so I figure once those hormones are out of my system I should be fine, hopefully. They say it takes about 8 weeks for the pregnancy hormones to get out of your system. The physio lady actually advised me not to breastfeed, but I didnt listen.
Mine is still so much better than it was when I was pregnant. I think it helps to strengthen your ab muscles. You might want to try physio, it didnt work for me when I was pregnant but I think it would help now.
I fractured my sacrum 6 years ago so I have a history of trauma to that part of my body. Back then, after my bones healed I did Pilates and went regularly to an osteopath and a massage therapist to get my range of motion back, fix my alignment and strengthen the muscles around the SI joint and hip.
It's something I mostly have under control but is an ongoing maintenance issue for my body.
During the last two months of pregnancy the old aches and pains from my injury flared up. So I went in for weekly massage (I had been going once a month for the entire pregnancy up to that point) and when it got really bad I scheduled a session with my osteopath.
After delivery I still had the same pain, but I didn't see a point in worrying about it until at least my 6-week pp checkup. I tried doing a few stretches and my body just wasn't ready, so I just focused on taking care of the baby. I still went for massage every 3-4 weeks. Once I was cleared for exercise I started up Pilates again and that has helped a lot. But mainly I think it was just being patient for those first couple of months.
The SI pain is pretty much gone (I'm now 3 months pp). If it had persisted after I started to get out and about, I would have called my osteopath. As it was I don't think I could have fit in a session during that early newborn stage.
It takes a long time for your body to get back to normal. You're only 2 days pp-- be patient, rest as much as you can and enjoy your baby. I hope the chiro is able to help you. Good luck!
