This happened the other day and I cannot get this out of my head. 

 So we are checking out daycare facilities and we (MIL & I ) had someone say to us. "Oh yeah, we have other foster parents, so and so adopts all those crack babies" My mouth hit the floor and I am kicking myself for not saying anything but my MIL was with me and I didn't want to freak her out. I really want to call the center manager and speak with her. People really say shiiit like that ?

That is crazy!  I would definitely talk to the director.

But to answer your question, yes, people really say dumb sh*t.  We got a few zingers like that too!

There are just so many people out there who have lived sheltered lives with little or no experience outside of their own ideas on society.

I still get comments filled with ignorance to this day when I try to discuss my own adoption....40 years later!!  Talking about my mom, people will say, " oh, your real mom or you adopted mom?"

Seriously???

But for a daycare to be doing that?  I would also write a letter to the licencing arm of the community that agency is in and make sure they are aware of that as well.  Such language simply cannot be tolerated!

I agree with PPs, definately contact the daycare because that is really unacceptable.

Not the same situation, but a few weeks ago my DH was at our local bank and the teller made some really racist remarks, apparently just assuming that he would completely agree with her.  He was so embarressed he didn't say anything, but it is amazing the things that a) people think to begin with and b) that they think it's okay to say to people they don't even know.
