So, my school secured a rather large grant for books.... I worked on the proposal with my principal and found out we got it when I was in labour with Addie:) I think the whole mat ward could hear me scream when I found out, LOL ...Basically it's enough to fill an entire library! Even though I am on mat leave, I am making a list of books that I want to be included.
If you could create a dreamlist of books for children (k-8ish) what would be on it?
Re: books
Here are some books that I loved when I was that age (Let's see how many I remember. Also, some are crap (but fun) and others are more scholarly:
Anne of Green Gables series, Judy Blume books, Beverly Clearly books, Baby Sitters Club, Sweet Valley High, A Taste of Blackberries, Hatchet, A Wrinkle in Time, The Rats of NIMH, Dr. Seuss, Shel Silverstein's Where the Sidewalk Ends, Encyclopedia Brown.
I'm pretty sure that I read all of the Baby Sitters Club book (including the longer Special Editions) and even asked for the board game for Christmas one year! Man, I LOVED that series! Needless to say, I also watched the TV series.
It sounds like an impossible task! I wouldn't know what NOT to include.

Also, The Phantom Tollbooth, The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe series, The Giving Tree, 21 Balloons, The Boxcar Children, Where the Wild Things Are, The Hardy Boys series, The Nancy Drew series, maybe the Lord of the Rings series for more advanced readers.
I also loved Christopher Pike books (his early stuff, anything after 1992 was crap) in middle school, but those are horror stories so not sure if they're appropriate for a school library.
Can you tell I get excited about reading? LOL I'll probably think of more and post later.
Awesome! I teach kindergarten, so it's great to have some titles for older students!
This for me too! Where the Wild Things Are, Madeline, Walk Two Moons, the Boxcar series, Goodnight Moon, anything by Dr Suess. That's so awesome--good luck!

Yay for books!! There has been so many great suggestions already!
My knowledge is more for kids age 2 to 5, but I think I can suggest some picture books that at least k-2nd would like.

Mo Willems books
If You Give a Mouse a Cookie books
Harvey Potter's Balloon Farm by Jerdine Nolen
A isn't for Fox- An Isn't Alphabet by Wendy Ulmer
Pinkalicious books (kind of obnoxious but kind of cute, I'm sure you know them well as a kindergarten teacher).
Chicka Chicka Boom Boom
Frog and Toad books
James Marshall- Miss Nelson is Missing! and other books
Los Gatos Black on Halloween by Marisa Montes (great english/spanish hybrid book!)
