Bellybutton bleeding

So, I'm concerned about DS's bellybutton. He's 6 weeks old, and his belly button looked fine and healed for awhile, but the past few days it has begun to bleed. The blood is coming from the inside (sometimes it almost looks goopy), not around the outside or anything. We called the doc and they seemed concerned about it, so we are taking him in tomorrow. Of course I'm all worried now...has anyone had any experience with this, where DCs bellybutton was bleeding? What was the outcome? TIA!

DS's belly button bled for a good week.  Pedi said as long as there wasn't any pus or odor, we didn't have to worry.  It cleared up just fine and looks normal now.

DD's belly button started bleeding again.  The pedi had us use rubbing alcohol on it until it stopped (it bled for about a week).  They weren't concerned as long as there was no pus or odor.  This was when she was about 3-4 wks old, and the stump had already fallen off a good 2 weeks earlier.
