Steri-strip still not off?

I go to my doc on Friday and I am worried it will hurt to take the strip off. They said it will fall off on itsown but it still is stuck on there. It looks like it is thinning? I can see more darkness under it, which I assume is the incision?

Re: Steri-strip still not off?

  • generally speaking the steri-strip wont hurt when it comes off unless there's been an issue w/ the healing. As long as you're not actively bleeding and there's no puss or anything like that you should be fine! (I've had to have lot's of surgeries -skin cancer and a c-section- so steri-strips are an area of expertise for me!)

  • Mine never fell off either. When I went at 1w PP to have it checked my OB said to take it off a few days later if they hadn't fallen off. I was scared and waited like another 5 days. Needless to say, totally did not hurt when I took them off.

  • I took mine off at 2 weeks. None fell off on their own.

  • You can take them off at the 2 week mark if you are not having any issues with your incision. Get in the shower and peel them off. It does not hurt.

  • My OB ripped it off at my 2 week check up. The corners were coming up on it's own but I didn't realize you could remove it yourself.

  • A lot of mine fell off on their own, but I removed the ones that were still around at 2wpp.  It felt like ripping off a bandaid.  NBD.

  • Only two of mine fell off and the rest stayed on until my 6 week pp appointment! I was scared to take them off myself. My doctor took them all off and it didn't hurt at all except that my skin was a tiny bit red from where some of the strips were, I think it's because they were just on there too long.

The nurses at my hospital told me to let my steri-strips fall off on their own, but by my 2w pp appointment, they had barely begun to peel at the edges. My OB soaked a cotton ball in alcohol and dabbed them before pulling them off and I literally didn't feel a thing.

  • The nurse told me they would fall off on their own too, but when I saw my doctor at the 2 week appointment, she said they wouldn't fall off, I would have to take them off. She told me to pull them off in the shower.

  • Mine did not fall off either. I waited over 10 days to even touch them and at that point they easily peeled off. Just don't try to rip them off too early. I think that's the key.
  • the nurse took mine off at 2 weeks it def hurt but made it easier to shower. i would assume you are seeing your incision
