How did you know you had an infection (internally or externally)?

I'm curious, those of you that have experienced an infection, how did you know? What were the signs or symptoms that prompted you to get it checked out?

  • Mine started oozing and the area was red.

  • I spiked a fever on day 3 when I was waiting for discharge and earned myself a stay in the hospital until I was fever free for 24 hours.  I ended up in the hospital for 6 days with an internal infection.
  • My incision was open, oozing, and very red and tender.

Mine was internal infection, I was in so much pain I could not breath or walk.  I also had a fever.  Never had any oozing from incision site.
  • Mine was internal, large abscess under, and infection surrounding, my uterus.  I woke up at home 1 wk pp and felt fine, an hour later DH left for work and I was trying to eat a little before DD woke up and I had the absolute worst pain of my life, and yes I labored before my c/s.  No fever or anything.  I can't even explain how it hurt it was so bad i could barely move and I had to lay on my couch with DD screaming while I tried to call someone to take me to the ER.  13 hrs later, after being told it was gall bladder and appendix, CT scan showed massive infection and I was admitted and on IV antibiotics for 5 days.

There was nothing until the excrutiating pain started, the fever didn't even start until I was at the ER for an hour.
