My sister's friend who is only 20 and already has a 2 year old, told my sister that her MW is going to try to "induce her naturally" at 36 weeks because she is uncomfortable. This is also going to be done in the "safety of her own home".

I just can't believe the things she says sometimes!

Wow that is nuts, for her baby and her baby only I hope its born safely.

Could someone please point me to the direction in my home where there is enough medically necessary supplies for me to be induced in my own home "safely" if God forbid something does go wrong.  Who are these people???

While this is incredibly stupid and someone should smack that midwife for being an idiot, induction at home by a midwife is NOTHING LIKE being induced in a hospital. It means using herbs, castor oil, membrane stripping...if she is really stupid maybe AROM at 36 weeks. Most of the stuff (not AROM) won't work if her body isn't ready to go into labor anyway. AROM at 36 weeks likely means a trip to the hospital for a c-section unless they get "lucky and her labor does start. Otherwise, it likely means a trip for the newborn to the hospital after birth for underdeveloped lungs, etc.

I wasn't sure how they would do that naturally, but that makes sense! It still boggles my mind that this girl wants this. She is due the same day I am and is hoping to have the baby before the end of August because it is hot and it's getting harder to lug her 2 year old around with her.

Probably should have thought of that before getting knocked up! (both pregnancies are unplanned, but she does claim that the father is the same, but my sister has her doubts!)

Dude. Lugging around a 2 year old (and keeping him HAPPY all the time) in the heat with an irritable uterus and partial bed rest isn't exactly a bucket of roses. She needs to G(row)TFU.

Let me explain why the induction posts tick me off so much to he point I see RED.

I am what 33 weeks almost 34 weeks pregnant, I have 4 lumps in one breast that were not found until shortly after finding out that I was pregnant. These lumps need to be removed immediately after I give birth. I also have had pre-term labor since about 24 weeks and have to give myself injections every day for the contractions. I also get a steroid shot once a week to help baby because of the pre-term labor. I also have had to have my cervix sewed shut to prevent it from dilating.  I pray everyday that this little girl stays inside till my due date or later but have been told by specialists and by doctors that if I make it to August 31st I will be lucky.

So I am trying beyond belief to keep my little girl safe and cooking why others who are miserable, uncomfortable, don't want to deliver a baby that weighs more than 8 pounds, or wants their doctor to deliver to be induced before 40 weeks. I don't get it and to me its beyond selfish. Thought I would share why this makes me so angry.

Not that I felt you needed to justify your post, but DAMN, you sure did. I am sorry you are going through all of that. Lots of *sticky dust* coming your way.

     Ditto!!! <3

At my first OB appointment they told me his office does not induce for any reason unless medically necessary until you are past your due date. They said the hospital will not allow an induction before 39 weeks with a valid medical reason.

  • My opinion our babies will come when they are ready! Some people need to be induced early for medical reasons which I totally understand but some need to just deal with being pregnant!

  • I agree with everyone else!  It needs to be medically necessary

    Thats not a safe MW.

  • I just wanted to say that I am a type two diabetic, and I've been told from the beginning that I will be induced at 39 weeks if the baby has not made an appearance on her own before then. This is deemed medically necessary, and they've already begun watching me like a hawk, because there is the risk of early placenta deterioration. That said, I would NEVER ask to be induced earlier (barring an emergency), and I'm hoping and praying that I will go into labor on my own at just before 39 weeks, because the idea of an induction is not at all appealing. I just cannot comprehend why someone would choose such a difficult path.
