We are scheduled for one tomorrow for LO- anyone know how this goes down? I doubt he's raise-hand-at-beep ready yet. Do they strap electrodes to his head?
A lady I know had her kid tested. They were in a booth and mom had on these noise blockers and they'd play a sound from a different speaker and see where the kid looked (if he looked).
I guess they didn't want mom to hear so she wouldn't accidently give the answer away.
We had DS tested. They put us in a soundproof room. I sat on a chair in the middle, DS sat on my lap. We faced a window where the technician sat. On both sides of the window there was a speaker with a toy that would light up and flash. We sat there for a few minutes and they would play various sounds on the left, and various sounds on the right, and record where DS looked.
At first he was apprehensive about the set up, but he calmed down. It was very tempting for me to look at the toys or try to sooth DS if he fussed, but I had to sit still and be quiet.
It was very simple, nothing to worry about.

We're doing that tomorrow and then we're starting early intervention on Thursday - it's a busy week!
I'm pretty sure we got the results right away. They may want to give them to your primary doctor first - but it's not like waiting for lab results or something.
It sounds like a very exciting week! I hope everything goes smoothly!

Pretty much what PPs described with the booth and lights and sounds, etc. We did it at 18 months and he was really too young to respond properly, so they couldn't tell how much was hearing and how much was age-related. Don't be disappointed if you have that problem, though your DS may respond better because he's a bit older.
