showing empathy?

At what age did you notice your twins showing empathy?

Just in the past three or so days we noticed them smiling at each other and crying when the other is crying. For example, DH feeds them both on boppys and DS cries when his bottle is taken away for burping. DD is sitting next to them waiting her turn and started crying, too. Also, DH said he clipped DD's nail too short this morning and she started crying. DS started crying out of no where while he was trying to calm DD down.

Them smiling at each other of course makes my heart melt already! I don't like the crying bit though :(

Re: showing empathy?

  • Developmentally, true empathy doesn't show up till like 3 or 4 years. But my babies will sometimes cry when the other cries, started around 8 months, it's usually either they also have a need, or sometimes it's more like oh something is wrong I better cry too.

  • I've noticed the same behavior in my twins over the past two weeks or so. If one cries, the other one starts frowning and reaching for her. It's adorable :)
