Iron-deficient anemia

Hello!

I just had my "wonderful" glucose test and they found that my hemoglobin levels were way too low. They have added an iron supplement for me and have told me to start eating more red meat and beans with OJ.

Anyone else have any issues with this and if I need to do anything else? Just wondering if this could be my reasoning for all my 'black-out' spells.

Re: Iron-deficient anemia

  • I regularly suffer from anemia. Yes, it can make you tired, lightheaded, etc.

Red meat is important.  You'll also find that combining your high iron foods with certain other items can reduce the ability of your body to absorb the iron. I.e. don't take your iron pill with a big glass of milk (best to have on an empty stomach, even if it is difficult).

Another good iron food that I enjoy is spinach.

    Good Luck!

  • Try to eat more foods with copper, too. Copper can be a cause of anemia just like iron.
