Formula/feeding question

My little one is eating like a champ which I am happy about but he is also eating more than I can produce.  We had a nice freezer stash when we left the hopsital but that is going to be gone in about a week and a half.  I am trying to stash at least 40z per day for when I return to work but that will not be enough for him while I am out of town.  Our doctor gave us Enfamil Enfasure and said that it was OK to start to supplement and still breastfeed but we have noticed the he spits up a lot more when we give him a formula/breastmilk mixture.  The most he has eaten at one feeding is 4oz..

So here are a few questions for you:

-Are you breastfeeding your LO?

-If you use formula, what brand?  I have noticed Neosure is popular on this board.

-If you are trying to get a freezer stash together, how are you doing it and how much are you stashing daily?

This is making me so worried and frustrated!

Thanks in advance!

  • I pumped/BF for over a year but it was a major struggle and we always supplemented.  DS came home on Enfamil newborn, switched to Gentlease around 4 months, and ended up on Gerber Good Start in the end.   I used Reglan and Domperidone to get my supply up, but until DS dropped night feeds I was still only producing half of what he needed.

  • -Are you breastfeeding your LO? No

-If you use formula, what brand?  She came home on neosure, but after 2 months we were told to take her off of it. I BF and bottle feed BM until 2 months old. My pumping supply sucked, but when she nursed, she nursed around the clock. At two months I switched to Good Start Gentle

  • -Are you breastfeeding your LO?

Yes BF twice a day/ Pumping twice a day. I too had a large freezer stash but went through that in June

-If you use formula, what brand?  I have noticed Neosure is popular on this board.

We use enfamil (at regular dosage, we used to fortify to 22cal) Im considering switching to earths best

-If you are trying to get a freezer stash together, how are you doing it and how much are you stashing daily?

went through my stash.  My daughter now gets 8-11oz of formula a day to supplement

Maybe try a different formula?  I would just slowly wean to the amount of formula you need.  My daughter is still much slower/ uninterested in her formula bottles vs. her pumped BM bottles

  • -Are you breastfeeding your LO?

I BF them for until they were 12.5 months

-If you use formula, what brand?

They discharged the NICU with orders to give at least 2 Neosure/BM bottles daily, then it went down to one at bed time, and then we had to add back another fortified bottle when their growth slowed too much.  Now they are currently transitioning from straight Neosure to WCM.

-If you are trying to get a freezer stash together, how are you doing it and how much are you stashing daily?  I had over 1000 oz from their NICU stay.  Since I BF them on demand once at home and only pumped once or twice a day, my stash sat there for months but I eventually used it once they started needing more.

It sounds like you are EPing?  Is your LO unable to latch and BF?

  • I'm not bfing (for obvious reasons), but we feed Enfasure.  She was diagnosed Monday with reflux, but my mom isn't sold that it isn't a formula intolerance, but at this point the pedi doesn't want her to switch until we try the zantac for awhile.

  • I BF. DD currently gets half straight breastmilk and half breastmilk fortified with Neosure. For the feedings that are straight breastmilk, I try to get her to take as much straight from the breast as possible, but sometimes her appetite exceeds her stamina for BFing and we have to offer some breastmilk from a bottle afterwards. My supply dipped recently since I am not exclusively pumping on a strict schedule like I was when she was in the NICU. I am trying to get it back up by pumping more. I would like to have a good stash when I go back to work in October.

  • -Are you breastfeeding your LO?  yes, kinda :)  i don't really think she gets much from me, last week's weighed feeding she got half an oz.  And that was a GOOD feeding.

-If you use formula, what brand?  I have noticed Neosure is popular on this board.  Similac Advance.  It's what we started with at the hospital and have stayed with.  Currently giving her 2-3 oz after I breastfeed her.

-If you are trying to get a freezer stash together, how are you doing it and how much are you stashing daily?  I wish I could, but I cannot pump much at all.  Maybe 2/3rds an oz a day if I'm having a good day.  My supply sucks donkey balls.

realistically we may need to switch over to formula entirely soon, but now that she's hit her due date and I'm giving her another week or so to see if she sucks better (she has no issue latching, she just slept at the boob for the first month) and if that in turn increases my supply.
