Passports

Does anyone have a passport for their LO's? How hard was it to get the other parents' consent? Right now, I'm the only parent on the BC, so it doesn't matter.

Re: Passports

  • I would go ahead and get it before you have to ask your X's permission.  I asked my XH, and we're on good terms, and he wouldn't agree to it.  I'm going to revisit the issue in a few months, and see if he has a change of heart.  My hands are tied until then.

  • Yeah. I plan to. I just was wondering what I was looking at in the future. With my daughter, I have sole legal. With my son, it's going to be next to impossible to get sole legal. But, I was debating applying for exclusive travel rights.
  • Even though I have sole legal and physical custody, I'm still required to get BD's consent for a passport for ds.

  • Just dropping by, but I have sole legal and physical custody of both of my sons. My FI and I took them to Cancun with us a couple of years ago.  To get the passports I just had to send in a certified copy of the court order stating that I had sole legal/physical custody with the rest of the required documents and their passports were issued.  BD had nothing to do with the process and did not have to give his consent.

  • We want to go to Europe when DD graduates. Plus, I'd like to go to Niagra.  In our order, I have to notify him if we go any place for more than 24 hours, but I don't need permission. He doesn't have extended possession at this time. He can't even take him out of the city.

They didn't question anything when I took DD to the Bahamas.

That is the issue. They never question anything and I bet you may have seen from my FB, my DD looks nothing like me.

My issue is that your ex does seem to be the type to make a huge fit out of it. About the notification for travelling, Im assuming thats when you are going to do it within the border, International flight is A LOT different.

I'll bring it up in mediation. Should be startIng shortly. If I can show it'll be unnecessarily problematic, hopefully the facilitator will add that to the order. I know here you can have international travel place in the orders. I think because SOOO many people go to Mexico, it's a big deal. The biggest issue I can see is that I'm a Dutch citizen. Granted, I haven't been to The Netherlands since I was 4.

  • Pretty much every EU nation is.
  • I have sole custody also and it only says I have no notify EX in writing if I move to a different county 30 days in advance and he has the option of contesting it with the court. I will have to read through my court order, but I do not think it says anything about traveling. I guess the only issue would be not making LO available for times of visitation. I can see how BD might worry that you would take LO out of the country and disappear forever, and I would feel the same way if the situation were reversed. In a nutshell, I have no advice lol
