What do you budget for baby?

Does the baby have a separate line item in your household budget?

The cost of her solids and formula is absorbed into our general food budget.

Everything else she requires is in general taken out of her "allowance," so to speak.

We just recently bought her a "big girl" car seat out of her stash.
Today I got the itch to buy her (me?) some new toys and there isn't really the amount there that I'd like.
This is just a lack of looking ahead/unrealistic expectations on my part I think, but it made me curious if she was getting a fair amount in her "allowance."

For those of you that do budget, what do you budget for baby?

FWIW, she gets $200 a month.

  • We figured ds into separate parts of the budget.  His formula and baby food is part of our food budget, clothes come out of what we have budgeted for new clothes, toys out of spending money, etc.  I'm not sure how much total we added for him bc we did it this way.

  • We don't really have a budget, but I think DD on average I think she spends about $200-300 a month not including formula.. I still need to buy a high chair and convertible carseat in the coming months and that's going to be around the $800 range.. So I would say the average is about right.. And then there is baby proofing, a new larger play pen, winter clothes, a second high chair at grandmas house.... It never ends!

  • he does have a line... it's $50/mo, including formula. we buy all of his clothes and toys at consignment sales at this point, we specifically registered for toys that would get us beyond 6 months. i also just finally burned the last of the gift cards from returning baby gifts that we knew we wouldn't use.
