Pregnant after 35

Quad screen results ...

I think I've informally introduced myself but just in case I'm 36 and 18 weeks along (as of tomorrow) ... Second baby, we have a 2 and half y.o DS. OBGYN said today he 'thinks' this ones a girl ... Freaking out as I think I have the boy thing down and teenage girls scare me! Ha of course we're excited regardless!

Ok, so in the QUAD SCREEN results ... I'm right there in the middle. Apparently I'm just under the 'normal' chances for my age (1/230). My ultrasound is in 2 weeks where they look for the 'markers'. I know even those can be unreliable. So my question; anyone else in this middle ground group and opt for an amino? This would be of course only for preparation and or peace of mind as we would be too far along to even consider any other choice. I can be an anxious person and don't do to well with the unknown! Any personal experiences?

P.S. can I be added to the roll call?

Thnx!

Re: Quad screen results ...

  • If you want peace of mind, you can always do MaterniT21. It is non-invasive. I did it and was quite pleased with the results.

  • Thank you! I haven't heard of that. I'll look into it.
  • I did the "Harmony" fetal DNA test (like MaterniT21) and opted out of amnio.  We're very, very happy with this decision.

  • Check with your insurance - mine didn't cover either and I wasn't going to shell out $2000 to take the maternit21.  I wanted to take it though!!

I only paid $235.00 for MaterniT21. Even if my insurance decides not to cover it, they won't come back to bill me for the difference.

  • Hi, I am 38 and had the same results you did (approximately). We opted for the amnio because I need peace of mind. I wanted to know, either way, what to expect. Thankfully, all went well and the amnio was not painful at all.

  • We did the Harmony test also (still waiting on results).  Doctor's office said my portion, without insurance paying, should be around $150.

  • Thank you evervyone for the great advice!

We are overseas and it looks like the blood DNA tests (harmony & maternit21) will not be available to me here ... BUT we are moving back to the States in 4 weeks ... I'll be about 25 weeks before I can get anything done but now I know I have options other than an amino.

    Thnx

  • What do the Hamony and Maternit21 entail? When are they performed?
