Menopur :/

Tonight was the first night of stims for IVF #2. I'm on gonal-f and menopur this time. The menopur burned so bad! I wasn't anticipating that. Now, less than 10 minutes later, I'm having mild cramping. Anyone experience this with menopur?

Re: Menopur :/

  • Menopur treated me very poorly.  The only thing that helped somewhat with the wicked burning was icing beforehand.  I'm so sorry you're hurting.  Can't help with the cramping -- I don't recall experiencing that.  Hugs and feel better.

  • Menopur is not my friend.  I mixed my Gonal F with the Menopur so I only had to do one injection.  It did seem to cut down on the burning somewhat.  I think the Gonal F diluted it a bit.  Ask your RE if you can mix.

  • I'm zero help, but can I just say I totally wimpered when I read this.  I'm doing 1 vial of Menopur/day for my upcoming IVF and to hear it burns so bad isn't what I wanted to hear!!!!

    Hope the cramping goes away!

  • Menopur burned me only when I injected it too fast. Now this last cycle I was on Repronex and it was horrible!!! I never got cramping.

  • I hear ya!! I am mixing Menopur and Bravelle this time around (last time was just Menopur) and it seems to sting a little less. Not sure if any of this will help you but here are some tips that worked for me:

    1. My right side hurt less (i know there's no rhyme or reason, it just did).

    2. Inject slow and steady, the faster it went in the more it burned.

    3. Make sure you are putting the needle in at 90 degrees. DH gave me all my sots and it wasn't until the 4th day that he was re-reading the directions and said "huh, the directions say 90 degrees and I've been doing 45 degrees this whole time". I swear it felt a million times better from that night on!

    Good luck!

  • The only time my Menopur shot burned was when I administered it too soon after swabbing (with alcohol) the spot I was going to stick myself. Once I made certain the swabbed spot was totally dry--I felt nothing.

  • I found that if you mix it and then let it sit for five or ten minutes, it does take a little of the sting out. Good luck!

  • I agree with most everyone menopur does burn, but if you let the alcohol dry and then push slowly but steadily it helps a lot!

  • I did Menopur last cycle and I only felt the tiniest burning sensation for maybe 5 seconds. As for the cramping, I'd take it as a sign that its already getting your ovaries working hard! Good luck!

  • My experience hasn't been too bad with Menopur. It does burn a bit, but I just go slow. Also, letting it sit in the syringe for a few minutes seems to help. And like PP said, for whatever reason, my right side doesn't burn as much as my left.

I did have to double up on my Menopur this cycle, mixed two vials with 1ml of solution. That sucked.

Ganirelix has been my least favorite injection by far. Dull needle, burns, and itches. No, thanks!

Me too. I was really scared because of all of the stories of it burning, but I went slow and it didn't burn at all. I didn't even ice first. GL!
