WDYT- Katrina?

DH suggested this name the other day, and DH never suggests names. WDYT? Is the hurricane the first thing that comes to mind? Would you use it anyway? Is Katarina better?

My mom and MIL are both Catherines and I'm a Caitlin, so we like the idea of using another form of the name.

Yes, the first thing that comes to mind is the hurricane. But nonetheless, I like the name.

It's my name. I like it.

I understand that the hurricane might come to mind for some people...especially if they were affected by it. But there are several names that have that connotation. And there will be as long as they continue to name them.

I like Katrina more than Katerina but I do think of the hurricane.

I think it's too soon to use Katrina.  I definitely think hurricane, and that would probably be the first thing strangers think of when she introduces herself.

Katarina would be better.

I didn't think hurricane until you said it.  I think it is a pretty name....Katerina is even prettier.

There are lots of pretty variants on Catherine, I'd find another one.

Ohhh I hadn't thought of this spelling...and Catriona LeMay Doan was pretty much my hero in 1998! I will have to run it by my H.

She's one of mine too, I used to train at the pool that was in the same center as the Olympic Oval, I've run into her more than once, she's very sweet. I liked the name before, she tipped the scales for me. She's an awesome lady, definitely a good namesake.

I don't think her contemporaries would have that name association. Older generations maybe- but that's not a big enough reason to skip this pretty versatile name IMHO. I like it. 

Cute nn options, it will age well as she's an adult, and it's kind of spunky!

I agree w/ pp. Your DD and her generation won't have that association. Even to me, that's not the 1st thing I thought of. I like the name and I think it's really cute. Don't let the hurricane stop you from using it.
