FTM.....Discharge Question

Hello,

I am going to be right up front that this is TMI, and I am sorry. I need some help from mothers who are going through the same things as me. Yesterday I had brownish colored discharge which has never happened before. I read in my books about how it could be the mucus plug, but I am only 35 weeks an 3 days. I didn't have any contractions that I know of, just Braxton Hicks contractions which I have been feeling more often, and stronger but not consistent to raise red flags. Have any of you other momma's had this problem now or in the past. Or do you have anyone that you know that has gone through this?

Re: FTM.....Discharge Question

  • I haven't had this, but I know you can lose part or all of your mucous plug early, and it can regenerate.  It's not like water breaking- it doesn't mean labor is imminent.  I'd just bring it up to your Dr. at your next appointment, or call your nurse line if you're worried about it and want it checked out sooner.  Doesn't sound like something to stress about too much though.
  • This is exactly what happened to me yesterday! I am pretty sure it IS the mucus plug, but apparently you can lose the MP this early and still not go into labor until your due date. Before I realized this, I did call my Ob because, like you, I am still "preterm" and it made me nervous. She said that by 35 weeks, they wouldn't do anything to stop labor anyway, so unless my water breaks or I'm having regular strong contractions, or a lot of bleeding, there's no need to be seen.

  • That makes me feel a little better. I have an appointment on Wednesday and I will ask. Does anyone know if being active, like doing more physical activity (walking, lifting. etc.) can cause you to lose you MP?

  • Only thing that makes you lose it is dilating. Which is ok to start dilating a little this early. But just a heads up Ive been losing my mucus plug since 24 weeks. It just keeps coming back. No reason to worry right now. Just talk to your dr on wednesday.

  • I had this happen last week.  I would only get it once a day, but it happened for 4 days straight.  I was only 32 weeks, so I was freaking out.  Turns out it I had developed a small cyst inside my vag and it would get irritated and leak.  DH and I run a photo booth company and we've been ?ber busy for the past few months. The two weeks prior to this happening we had a ton of long outdoor events - my doc thinks the heat + sweaty vag + chaffing could have been the reason for the cyst.
