C-sections

Sharp, piercing pain when standing up/lifting

I has my csection Tuesday.  After a picture perfect recovery  (never needed anything but ibuprofen with extremely little pain) I got a piercing, acute pain whet

n standing up while holding baby. .  It is a good inch above the incision.  It could almost bring years to my eyes and feels like being stabbed with a needle.  It is clearly related to movement and stops altogether once It passes

Im not picking up baby for awhile and the on  call doctor said Ira very hard to rip an internal stitch, etc so just to call if it got worse.  Anyone experience this and how long did it last?  Does this just sound like normal list-surgery pain and I just avoided until after getting home and exerting myself more?

  • You are still in recovery. Take your pain meds! This is all very normal provided the pain goes away when you rest. It never hurts to call your doctor when you are concerned though. But, really I suggest you remember you are still recovering, and to limit your bending and lifting movements. Having DD in the bassinet part of the PnP really helped.

  • You said it's above your incision, but does it feel incision-related?

My uterus contractions were awful.  I would literally stop in my tracks and grab something.  I couldn't talk or move.  It was like being in labor all over again.

  • i had that.  It is quick the feeling isn't it.  within the week it started to get better.  Take your meds and just take care of yourself.  Call the dr. again if it continues to really be bad though.  No reason to be in such pain like that.

I stayed on percocets for the first week because of it, but i was not breastfeeding.

  • I had a similar pain. I was prescribed percocet (not vicodin) because I was breast feeding. For me there were both external and internal stitches that needed to heal. The internal stitches on the side were the ones that hurt the most.

It stinks but you are still pretty early in the recovery process. It should pass soon.

  • Thanks all.  I certainly agree with the pain mess idea -- I took ocycodone for a week after discharge with my first csection -- but with this one I really, inexplicably had almost zero pain after the ibuprofen.  This is literally 8 seconds of sharp pain about twice a day.  I was more wondering how long people experienced that, as I never had it with my first.
  • I think when we are feeling good in recovery, we tend to not take it as easy as our body needs us to. You probably strained something because it was not ready just yet. Rest, rest, rest.

  • I had pains on either side of my incision. My doctor said it was the muscle underneath. It's normal & it'll go away in time. Just do things slowly. I only took my pain meds the day I got home from the hospital. And that was because of the bad headaches I would get (thank you hormones) & my milk coming in.
  • I had sharp, searing pain in my lower abdomen when I stood up or twisted too quickly for a week or two after my c/s. It would stop me in my tracks and then pass in an instant. I had to remember to move slowly.
