VBAC with twins?

I had a scheduled C with my first for breech presentation and was originally hoping to VBAC w/ this pregnancy but now that we've found out we have twins, has anyone ever VBAC'd w/ multiples?

Re: VBAC with twins?

  • My doctor won't allow me to VBAC even with both babies head down. My first was a c/s due to being breech. I was a little undecided myself even with a singleton so I haven't really questioned doing the rcs with twins.

  • I had prepared to VBAC with my twins but Baby A was footling breech from 34 weeks on and that was the only breech presentation my OB would not deliver vaginally.

It's possible, but you really have to find a pro-VBAC doctor.  We have one in my area that I want to say has VBACed triplets (if not triplets, at least twins).

My OB group, while they said they supported doing a vaginal birth, would only do it both babies were head down, and I think even if they were in that position when they decided I should deliver due to growth issues (A was vertex, but B was all over the place), I somehow doubted they would have been keen on it.  So, take the difficulties of getting OBs to want to deliver twins vaginally and finding one that supports VBACs, and it will likely be difficult, but not impossible.  I highly recommend checking to see if there is a local ICAN group in your area.  They are incredibly well-versed in the providers in your area and who is VBAC-supportive, particularly in non-standard situations.
