Adoption

Clickly Poll: Really happy to see...

... a lot of variety re: types of adoption on this board!  When I started posting it was primarily foster-to-adopt and domestic infant adoptions and now there are more posters with kinship adoption and international!  I'm interested to see the breakdown down.

  • We are looking into both da and ia for our next child, but also waiting to find out if we can adopt our fc. So we are definitely a special snowflake :)
Married on 3.20.2004. It took 30 month, 2 failed adoptions and IVF for our first miracle. We have had 9 foster kids since he was born and started the domestic adoption process when he was 10 month old, we had 4 failed matches in that time. After our daughter was born we brought her home and spent 2 weeks fearing we might lose her because of complications that came up. But Praise God all went through and she is ours forever! • As a gay couple, we knew international adoption was a pipe dream, and that adopting through an agency would also be difficult, especially since we're also secular and many adoption agencies we went to required some sort of religious persuasion. Luckily we didn't have to look too long before someone I knew introduced us to a pregnant teenager who wanted to adopt but didn't trust agencies. We did independent adoption with an attorney.

Reading this makes my heart hurt. I don't mean to get into any political/moral debate, but it really aggravates me that being a gay couple or being secular would make it harder for you to give a child a loving home. I'm glad you found alternate means to grow your family!
