how do you go about your day and AP?

Sorry, total lurker here. LO is almost 8 wks, she sleeps in my room in a mini crib right by my bed. At night she sleeps great, but during the day she will only nap in my arms after nursing. Every time I put her down, she wakes up, cries, and wants to nurse again.

I am stuck on a rocking chair all day. DH is gone until September and I am looking for advice. I don't believe in CIO methods, so please share your strategies.

  • can you wear her?

  • yes, but the carrier I have is vertical. I looked at slings but saw comments about babies asphyxiating in them...kind of lost here...

As long as you're not using one of the sling models that a baby asphyxiated in, you're fine.

  • I use and love my Moby wrap! It looks scary at first but it is really not hard to use. You can put the baby on Vertically with her legs "frog like" or craddled like a sling as long as the X is between her legs and the panel over her body. On days when DD doesn't want to be put down but I have things to do I wear her, it works for us.
  • Yup, he lived in various carriers. I loved my mei tai when he was very small. It gave me my arms back. What kind of carrier do you have? If it's a crotch-dangler (bjorn, snuggli, etc), you may want to invest in a good one. I'm still using mine - it's worth it.

I have an Infantino carrier. LO likes it but I need to be walking, she ususally falls asleep. But if I am just at home she complains. I like the carrier and it is comfortable and easy to wear.

  • I had a lot of success with my ring sling (vertical).  I would walk around and bounce to get her to sleep while also patting her on the butt.  Once she was asleep I could sit down and even put my feet up as long as I kept up the butt patting until she was in a deep sleep.  I even was able to doze on the couch a bit. :)

  • My DD is the same way and she is 4 months.  I keep hoping it will get better as she gets older.  I wear her A LOT and she usually will fall asleep and then I can get some stuff done.  I still try everyday to put her down once she falls asleep but it hasn't happened yet.  I'm sure it will happen when she is ready.

A lot of times I will bring her into my bed and nurse her in the side lying position until she is asleep and then I will carefully sneak out of the bed.  I really have to wait until she is in a deep sleep though because otherwise she wakes up when I leave.  Good Luck!  It's tough and frustrating but just remember that they're only little once.

  • I like verticle holds too.  Cradling never felt quite right to me.  I have a Baby Ktan (2 actually, for those occasional poop/puke blow-outs) that I wear pretty much all day everyday for the first 4mo.  I can do pretty much anything with baby on me, and once their are comfortably passed out, I can sit down and relax and stuff too.

  • My LO slept vertically in the Moby or Ergo basically every nap for his first 4 months.

  • I agree with investing in a good carrier. I really love my moby, and still use it here and there, especially when DS is teething and needs to be walked around to fall asleep every once in a while.

Also, have you tried a pacifier? Or nursing her laying down and then sneaking away? DS wouldn't take a pacifier, and he was the exact same way as your LO. My mom suggested nursing laying down and then leaving, because that's what she had to do with me for years lol. It worked great, and we were all much happier.
