*infected piercing.. please help!!*

Okay.. I'm sorry this is a little gross, but I dont know what to do.. So I got my nipples pierced over a year ago, and I have had no problems with them since. They healed up nicely. Well about a week ago DH and I were laying in bed and he accidently caught one of my barbells with his finger. Well since then its became infected. HURTS SOO BAD! So I thought it would just be best for me to take it out. Well I had it out for a day and a half and a little bubble with a scab on it formed right in the center of my nipple.. So I did some research and the internet said NOT to take out an infected piercing because the infection could get trapped in, and could cause an abcess or mastitus (sp?). So I instantly went and pushed it back threw! (Not sure if that was a good idea or not). Well today it is incredibly sore! Still oosing and pussing.. eww I know, wayy gross. My whole boob is sore.. Not sure if its just because my nipple is so tender and my boobs are growing? But I was looking up some more stuff on it and people said to use salt soaks. I am going to try it tonight and for the next few days and Im praying it works. Well I am so worried about the baby right now:( I know infections can get into your bloodstream and I read something about it being able to infect the placenta?  I have my 4 week checkup on friday next week.. And if its not better was going to talk to my doctor about it... Any suggestions? Has anyone else had this issue?:( I just dont know if I should make an appointment with a regular doctor before then. IM FREAKIN OUT!

I took mine out because of an infection and it healed fine, but I was also ready to see them go. I would talk to your doc for specific instructions.

And if this was mud I totally fell for it

Well I thought it would be fine for me just to take it out, but then I got that little bump with a scab on it that was wayyyyyyy sore! So I panicked and put it back in.. Do you mean my doctor I go to for the baby? Because I dont have an actual family doctor right now:(

Okay! That is probably best anyways! I just made an appointment with a doctor in my town for Tuesday. I hope she says its not spreading or anything:( I am so worried

Go to your general practitioner, just make sure he knows you're pregnant.

Definitely call a doctor, I wouldn't wait til Friday. If you don't have a regular doctor, call your OB and ask them where you should go.

Thanks ladies. My husband went to this doctor for his heartburn about a year ago, and she was way nice. So I just made an appointment with her for Tuesday at 10:30.

Try a sea salt soak. My ears get infected easily and a soak helps almost instantly. Ears and nipples, not the same thing, but sea salt soaks are recommended for lots of peircings. Pretty easy too

I generally take a fairly warm shower, letting the water clean as much of the puss out as possible, use peroxide to bubble deep inside the piercing, and rotate the ring every hour or two to avoid any build up around or inside.

I avoid the doctor as much as I can, but that's just me. If the pain is too bad, you start to run a fever, or the area around the piercing turns an unusual color def. keep your dr appt.

Thank you ladies! I have been doing the Sea Salt soaks for a couple days now.. It seems to be helping with the puss and stuff. Still have a scab on my nipple though (not by the holes). My whole boob is still very tender. So I am keeping my appointment with the doctor. Just because I am the biggest worry freak ever! I just dont want the infection to spread or something! I may just be being a little silly and over reacting, but better to be safe than sorry I guess! Thanks again:D
