Baby Names

MN to go with Walter?

My DH and I are team green, but if it's a boy, his 1st name will be Walter and we will call him by his middle name.  This is a tradition in DH's family - he's the 4th Walter.

So far, we've come up with Walter Maxwell (call him Max) or Walter Matthew (call him Matt).

Any opinions or other suggestions?  We like traditional names.  We're also Irish, and given that the baby is due just before St. Patrick's day, it would be cool to do with an Irish name if we found one we liked.  (no to Patrick!)

    Walter Evan

    Walter Pierce

    Walter Nolan

    Walter Sullivan

  • My DH vetoed Declan, but I love it.  We agreed that either of us can have complete veto power on any name - even if the other person loves it.

Thanks for the other suggestions!  I like Pierce, but I imagine my H wouldn't.  The others are either names of other children we know or last names we know.  We couldn't do Sullivan... we live in the Greater Boston area and all I can think of is "Hey, yo, Sully!"  lol...  There are a lot of "Sully"s around here...

  • I like Walter Matthew.  It does sound like Walter Matthau, but kids won't know who he is.  Heck, half the parents probably don't know who he is.

I like PP's suggestion of Walter Gavin.

    I also like Walter Ryan.

I thought about the Walter Matthau thing, too.  :)

Walter Ryan is my husband's name (goes by Ryan), so, naturally I like it, but that defeats the purpose!

I like a lot of these - thanks!  My original very 1st choice was John, because it's my dad's name, but then I decided not to, because it's also my brother's name (he goes by Jack) and I didn't think it would be nice to "steal" it from him in case he wanted to pass it on to his future son, if he has one.

I really like Walter James - but I'd call him Jamie instead of Jim or James.
