Dads & Dads-to-be

Babies Gender Question (from a Mom)

Hey Guys, I am pregnant for the first time, with TWINS.

I was just wondering what dads wish for. I mean, I know we all wish to just have "happy, healthy babies" but when it comes down to gender, do you wish for one over the other?

I always grew up dreaming of having a little girl to dress up all cutesy, but a few years ago swore off girls because of the hormones, whining, etc. Once we got pregnant though, we were really wishing for one of EACH (boy and girl). Thursday we found out we're having two boys. I thought it was cute that my husband was really wishing for one girl too. He's SO All American with his football, BBQ Cook-off Competitions, Off-Roading, Fishing and Hunting I'd think he'd be thrilled to have two partners in crime (which of course he is) but I just thought it was cute he wanted a girl too. I'm a Daddy's girl and really hoped he'd get to experience that bond too!

So, what do you guys wish for (other than the obvious "happy and healthy" baby?)

Re: Babies Gender Question (from a Mom)

  • While no two guys are ever going to be exactly the same, I can say when we had our first, I honestly was hoping for a boy.  Not that I would have been disappointed with a girl, but there are reasons why I was hoping the 1st would be a boy.

    - When/if we have a girl, she'll have a big brother to look out for/protect her

    - Carry on the family name as my dad was an only child and my brother is not showing any signs of settling down any time soon.

    - I wanted to start a tradition.  My parents named me after my grandfathers, so I wanted to name our 1st boy after his, which will hopefully start a tradition of the 1st boy born per generation will have their grandfathers' names.

Plus, the idea of playing catch, taking him to ball games, etc. which I'm fully aware that I could do the same with a daughter, but for whatever reason, whether its traditional gender roles or what have you, I envision doing that with a boy in my mind was a factor too.

However, if we would have had twins, I probably would have said one of each.  We are currently pregnant again and this time, I'm hoping for a girl.  The main thing is of course the obvious cliche of "happy and healthy", and bottom line is, it doesn't matter, I'll love this child no matter the gender, I'm hoping for a girl this time.

  • I am also a mom, but my husband absolutely wanted a boy and here was his reasoning:

-Carry on the tradition of fathers middle name becomes the sons middle name

-Only having to worry about HIS son's penis instead of EVERY other penis (if you get what I mean)

  • Ideally I eventually want one of each. But if our eventual baby #2 ends up being a boy, so be it. I think both genders have their fun and challenging ages. The idea of a teenage girl terrifies me, but I'm sure I'd get through it.

-My son was born in April 2012. He pretty much rules.
  • When I found out my wife was pregnant I honestly couldn't decide if I wanted a boy or a girl....just having a kid was awesome enough.

But my wife wanted a boy and we have one coming next month....kinda cool. But now when I picture our future it's all boys....I guess only time will tell.

  • I'm answering for my BF since he doesn't have an account here. He always wanted a boy as well for about the same reasons all the other dads said here:

    1. he wanted someone to carry the family name, and the tradition of keeping the same first name of his dad and grandpa.

    2. he was more comfortable having a boy being a guy himself. he didn't want to worry about a girl and having to keep all the boys off LOL

  • My first was a girl on three ultrasounds and I was excited. Well he came out  boy. I was surprised how stoked I was. He was born on a Sunday night and I remember the next night sitting in a chair holding him watching Monday night football, it was so cool!

  • I wanted a girl.

My wife has practically raised her nephew and I wanted her to have a new experience and not constantly compare our son to our nephew.

We are having a girl :)
