C-sections

6 weeks pp and I have a hole...my dr wants to cauterize??

I had my pp appt earlier this week and there is a small hole where my body rejected the dissolvable stitches. My dr wanted to cauterize it but I was so freaked out by the thought of it hurting I wouldn't let her. She gave me two weeks to try to let it heal on my own, but this morning when my husband was re taping it he said it had gotten a little bigger. I'm afraid I won't be able to avoid letting my dr do it. Had anyone had this happen? How much does it hurt? I'm so freaked out about her burning me closed!!

  • I have had a couple of cauterizations done, not with my c-sections but other small surgeries and really the worst part of it is smelling the burning skin. They will give you a shot of local to numb the area and then do it. It really is no big deal at all. It might burn a little after words but nothing that a little Motrin can't take care of.

If I were in that situation I would go and get it done. I would much rather have that done then to end up with some other form of infection that could be a lot worse and way more painful.

Cauterization is nothing compared to c-section pain.

  • My dr came at me with any local anything! She told me it wasn't standard at the hospital ( thanks military for the care) She just pulled out the sticks, said this will probably hurt and burn, and after that I said yeah no thanks

  • I had my toungue cauterized.  It's not bad at all.
  • I had a small hole that actually oozed for a long time.  My dr said it was fine and would all close up eventually, just to keep it dry and clean.  It did close up, but I do have a thicker/darker scar on that part.  I never knew about cauterizing.  I guess I figured if anything he would just have to stitch it back up again.  I think I would probably do it just because I know what my scar looks like and honestly having that oozing hole made me nervous all the time.

  • Maybe you can ask for dermabond instead? That's how I was closed and didn't have any problems (and virtually no scar).

  • I had a hole & definitely did not think it was small but my dr wasn't concerned. She didn't say anything about body rejecting stitches, but said the incision was infected. I went in several times (b/c I was freaking out) and she just put some tea tree oil ( i think) on it & eventually it did heal & close up.
