Breastfeeding

Breast feeding post augmentation

Good afternoon ladies. I am expecting my first baby, a boy, in October. I am really wanting to breast feed. 7 years ago, I got breast augmentation done (saline- under the muscle), nothing huge, just wanted to look more balanced I guess. Have any of you had success with breast feeding post augmentation? Or known anyone who has? I have been leaking colostrum since 18 weeks, so I'm hoping that is a good sign.

Thank you!

  • bfar.org is the go-to for breastfeeding after implants or reduction - they're probably the most help to you.

While NOT leaking isn't a bad sign, leaking is a good sign. It means things are connected the way they should be.

A bestie EBF for over a year with implants! Never had any problems so defentely can be done, just know even with no augmentation BF can be very difficult. So do not get discouraged, you will do great!!

Thank you, gives me hope :)

  • I had saline implants under the muscle 9 years ago and have been exclusively breast feeding my daughter.  I did not leak at all while pregnant, but have had a wonderful supply.  The only issue I hae had is actually an over supply and a fast let down.  I was nervous about being able to breast feed but the under the muscle implant and incision below the breast is not supposed to interfere with breast feeding and for me it hasn't!  Best of luck to you!!

  • I haven't had problems so far and my DS is 3 months old.  So far so good!  Mine were also under the muscle and saline.

  • I have been BFing for over a year without supplementation, and I've never had any big issues. Mine are under the muscle under fold incision too. I DO have some numbness on the right side of my right breast presumably from the stretching of nerves during the surgery, and it has given me a few issues with a delayed let-down, but it's manageable.
