I only like it spelled Gemma.  Gemma was our original name choice for DD, but we changed our mind once it actually came down to choosing a name.

I love the name Gemma (spelled this way)! Gemma with a J makes me think of Aunt Jemima the syrup for some reason. Gemma is on my short list if MH and I have another DD!

It's one of my favorite names, spelled Gemma! DH thinks it's a porn star/stripper name, so he's taken it off the table. It is quite popular in the Olympics however.

The only Gemma I know does pronounce her name as hem-ah. She's Cuban, though, so I believe that's the difference.

OP: Regardless of pronunciation, I much prefer Gemma.

I think that this name is super cute!! Especially because when you shorten it, like people tend to do, Jem is very cool. I prefer it with the J rather than the G. People might end up using the hard G sound instead. Great pick!
