Hey Girlies! So I wanted to update you all on how our flight to Florida went!
I figured if I got the earliest flight that Arianna would be more likely to sleep since she's more of an early morning sleeper than an afternoon sleeper....so my flight was leaving at 6am. I woke up at 2am to get ready, and for some strange reason Arianna woke up with me so DH got her ready. Advice #1 plan the trip around the time that you know she'll sleep more
First off, I have to say that traveling by myself with a newborn showed me just how helpful people still are in this country! All over the place I was asked if I needed any help, and it wasnt from the people who worked at the airport. I think only one lady helped me that actually worked at the airport...
Going through security was a bit crazy, I had to take the baby out of the stroller, place the stroller and carseat on the security belt all while holding Arianna in my arms. Luckily I only had to do this once, AND I had an older grammy looking ladying who said she would hold arianna and stay next to me while I got everything set up. Then when I got to the other side the only person that worked at the airport that i was just talking about helped me, but very very little. She had to check Arianna's formula, but she didnt open anything, I think they just swipe it with some kind of a flame detector or something, not really sure, but whatever, we got through fine, and got to the gate. Once I got to the gate I had to go to the desk and get them to tag my stroller, and I asked for assistance in taking it all apart and they said someone should be there to help, but once i got there, there was no one.. so once again while holding Arianna I had to breakdown the carseat and stroller and I got on the plane fine. I realized though that I hadnt changed her diaper, so I went into the bathroom, and let me tell you... I could barely move while I was changing her, so advice #2 leave your bag by your seat and only bring what you HAVE TO HAVE for a diaper change... also just change the diaper right before you get on the plane if you have the time.
So I finally got to my seat, and dontchaknow... I couldnt get in it and buckle up with her in my arms... luckily I had 2 ladies who were sitting right across from me and I asked them to hold her for just a second while I got situated. They were more than happy to hold her for me, and we basically chatted the rest of the flight. So during us going up I made sure to feed, and she did wonderful, because of the vibrations of the airplane, she ended up falling right to sleep while I was feeding her, and she basically slept the whole 1.5 hours! advice #3 if your not breast feeding, make sure to have all of your formula stuff ready to go because there isnt much room to get everything in order once your holding LO and getting the formula ready so I had it all ready before i got on the plane. I bought the ready made kind so all i had to do was open and pour. Also I had the flight attendant wash out my bottle with steaming hot water before I got off the plane When we got to ATL, I went straight to the family designated bathroom so I could take my time and go to the bathroom myself, get her changed too.
So after a 2 hour layover, we finally got on the next plane, and just like before, she did amazing. I fed her, and she fell asleep. I got some assistance from other passengers and we were well on our way! We made it to Florida and we are here hangin at Nana's house!
I was definitely worried about everything, but she did amazing. I'm so proud of her! And its made me a pretty confident FTM.
Re: Flight update!
That's so awesome that you took her on a plane by yourself! So glad it went well for you! It's nice to hear stories about others being helpful. Being out with LO has shown me that there really are nice people out there.
It was awesome and they were so helpful. What was great is they were always asking if I wanted a drink so I took them up on all the water I needed given I was pregnant that close bathroom can in handy LOL.
