3rd Trimester

SO thirsty!!! ...and not peeing

I am so thirsty all of the time and have been drinking tons of water.  I actually crave ice water.  But I'm only peeing a few times a day.  I passed the GD test at 24 weeks and am almost 35 weeks right now.   Do any of you have this?  I'm afraid it's not normal.  Oh, and when I do pee, it isn't dark or abnormal looking.

  • Not peeing is not normal, so if you feel that you are not peeing often enough I would call your doctor.

  • Are you swollen, because you could be retaining water. I'd bring it up with the doc, just to make sure it's not a sign of anything else going on. Good luck! I pee at least every hour :/

    This for sure.

  • I would definitely bring it up with your doctor. I've done the 24 hour urine test a few times now though and have been shocked at how much I pee when I actually do use the restroom. So it's possible that while you're not peeing often you're peeing a LOT when you do go.
  • Thanks ladies, I'll call tomorrow

  • Also take into account how hot it is, and are you sweating a lot? I find if I am outside in the heat, and loosing more water that way, I pee less than when I am indoors most of the day avoiding the heat, even if I have been drinking the same amount.

  • Defiantly call your dr. Not peeing enough and it being really dark are both signs of an uti. Then again you could just retaining a ton or sweating it out like pp said.

  • How much water do you mean by "tons"?

Remember that when you fill a cup with ice, it's displacing the volume of actual fluid you drink.. so unless you drink the melted ice (or eat the cubes)... a 20oz glass might only be giving you 8oz of fluid intake depending on the type of ice.

A minimal amount of water would be 6-8 (8oz) glasses per day.... A good amount would be 10-12 (8oz) glasses or more.

(And by all means, I'm not saying that I personally do drink this much water.. I don't feel like I have enough room!.. it's just what is recommended by my doctor.)

  • Are you having back pain (or abdominal pain?)  This MAY be kidney related (Though if it was you'd probably be in enough pain to realize it :) )
