Hello ladies,
I am expecting my first baby. I am at a loss trying to figure out what is important to have in my registry. I am not into having a lot of gear but I don't mind things that will be useful. So my questions for the moms out there are:
What's the one thing you can't live without?
What's the one thing you ended up never using?
Re: Question for moms in the area
Its totally going to depend on your baby! We did not want a ton of baby stuff crowding our house, so we did a travel swing and bouncey seat (he didn't really like the swing), then johny jump up and exersaucer for activities once he was a little older - both were well used. Loved Miracle Blanket swaddling blankets.
Good luck!
Things we liked/used a lot:
boppy
playmat -- all three loved being able to reach up to grab toys. When they're really young, they can't reach next to them while laying down to get a toy
excersaucer
bebepod chair
high chair
jumperoo (girls didn't like it but E loves it)
bouncers (both DD#2 and DS slept in it since they wouldn't sleep in a PNP or crib the first 4 mo)
swing (DD#1 and DS slept in it for part of the time)
PNP (DD#1 slept in it; all three used it to play in)
infant bath tub
duck tub (moved all three to that before going to the regular bath tub)
Baby K'Tan and Baby Bjorn (I didn't like the Moby which I had with DD#1)
SwaddleMe blankets
Halo Sleep Sacks
White noise machine
Things we didn't really need/use: wipe warmer, crib soothers
I love the FP Rock in Play. I used it instead of a bassinet when DD was first born until about 10 weeks. I still use it for travel and when DD has a cold. She really sleeps well in it and it's so easy to carry around.
I also love the muslin swaddle blankets - perfect for NC weather and the Swaddle Me velcro sleep pods. They were great in the begining.
The boppy is a must!
My DD never really took to a swing but I am not sorry we purchased it because it may come in handy for a 2nd child.
The one thing we never use is the pack in play but I think now that she is sitting up well we will start using it a little more.
Every baby is different. Our critical items were: swing, bouncer, pack-n-play (that was DD's downstairs "crib"), breast pump (we rented because it was cheaper while I was on leave), swaddle me, hospital's nasal aspirator, humidifier, nubby pacifier
Our didn't needs: boppy (pillow worked better for us), wipe warmers, bottle sterilizers (dishwasher worked), any music soothers, white noise machines, store version of nasal aspirator
