Am I being paranoid? WWYD? DD1 lost a tooth.

DD1 has had a loose tooth for a few weeks now. She asked if she could pull it today, so I let her try since it was pretty loose. I didn't think that she would be successful, but she yanked it right out. I've been promising both girls that we would go to the pool at the Y this afternoon, but now I'm not sure it's a good idea since she has a freshly exposed gum and who knows what bacteria could get in. I'm thinking that we should wait. WWYD?

Bacteria is always in your mouth, right? I'd still go.

I Would still go.  We never restricted our activities growing up due to losing a tooth.  I'd just tell her to try and keep the water out of her mouth the best she could.  If you are concerned you could just have her swish salt water, or something else, when you get home.

Mouths are full of bacteria anyhow. I don't think she's any more susceptible to catching some kind of ick with a freshly pulled tooth than she would be if she accidentally swallowed small amounts of the pool water.
