Knox makes me think of the character Knox Overstreet from Dead Poet's Society. It's a bit of a guilty pleasure, I guess, but I like it quite a bit.
On the flip side, I really can't stand Maverick. I'm usually okay with off-kilter names in the mn spot, but the combination is just too much. It's like badass overkill.
I just want to add that I don't think of this name as an attempt to be cool and/or different. I find it very odd when people say this particular phrase. I like the name Maverick as well. It is not an attempt to be cool or different. My DH and I simply like the name. We came across it as most parents do when looking at names and said to ourselves. Yes, we like this name. I personally like the way it sounds.
The other thing that bothers me about this assumption is that even if someone did want a "different" name (I really don't think Maverick is really that different) then it's their choice. It also always leaves me wondering "different" from what? Different from the most popular names, different than the trends, ect...
In the end you have to choose what's best for you and what suits your family.

Well, obviously you choose what's best for your family. I don't think anyone disputes that.
When people say that someone is trying to be different, I think it means they're being TOO different. I obviously don't think everyone should have a name from the top 10. I actually hate all of those names. But when someone names their kid "Slayden Wolfenstein Smith", it's kind of obvious they're trying to be edgy and too cool for school.

I guess it simply comes down to personal taste because I really don't see Maverick as being edgy or "too cool for school" and some people do.I think that sometimes people choose the name that works best for them and other people just make assumptions. I guess it's because I work in a field where I deal with kids alot and see many many different names. I really don't make any assumptions about someone based on their name or what they named their child because it may simply just not be the case at all. It may come from me having to be as objective as possible. That's just my take on it.

I don't think of Maverick as being terribly "different" either. We would like our next LO's mn to start with 'M' and we are NOT considering Michael, Matthew or Marcus. As for Knox, it was just a simple name that came up in conversation. My last name is long (4 syllables) and we prefer to have simple first names for our children. Knox seemed simple. It is on our long list, but not a front runner. Seriously though, WOW you guys are some crazy opionated chickies sometimes. It is interesting to see how one name can make the creative claws come out.

I couldn't agree more with ALL of this!! I hear "I'm trying too hard" all the time, but it's simply my taste and what I like; doesn't matter if anyone agrees and/or disagrees.
OP, Knox was actually on my list but my DH wasn't sold on it. I'm not a fan of Maverick but it's not terrible, nor are you trying too hard by using it. Don't let anyone change your mind.

Re: Knox...
All i can think about everytime i hear this name
I don't like Knox, but I love Maverick. It is very much a GP of mine.
Edit: Spelling error
Knox Maverick. Please tell me that's a joke.
Knox...well, whatever on that one. I live in Knoxville, in Knox County. So I'd never use it. But apparently Brad Pitt would (and did).
But paired with Maverick?? Oh come on...

This!
I've loved Knox ever since I heard it on a friend's nephew. I'm not huge into celebrities so the Jolie Pitt association doesnt bother me.
I also know a Maverick but I don't particularly like it.
Yup. You are trying WAY too hard to be 'cool' and 'different'.

Cute for a 5 year old or a pet.
Not so cute on a 35 year old man. Which your child will be someday.
