C-sections

RCS--Nearing the end with a big baby..anyone else experience this?

My c-section is scheduled to happen in about 2 1/2 weeks.  I had a growth u/s at 35 weeks and the baby was measuring 8lbs 6oz with extra fluid in there.  I had my pre-op appointment with the Dr. who will be performing the c-section and he is concerned about the size of the baby along with the extra fluid and he doesn't want us to wait until my scheduled date but the OR is booked.  So unless there is an emergency we can't move up my c-section.  He told me to let him know ASAP if the baby drops or if I notice any increase in cramping, pain, or just anything out of the ordinary that I haven't had up until this point.  He is worried about uterine rupture if the baby continues growing at this pace along with the extra fluid.  So I now am worried that I am reading too much into every little pain or ache and I don't want to over react but I don't want to ignore something that could be bad either.

Anyone that is having or has had an RCS, near the end did you feel a lot of pressure lower on your stomach around where the incision is?  Yesterday and today I've been feeling surges of pain and pressure lower in my stomach around where my incision is.  I don't think they are braxton hicks or regular contractions because it is isolated to my lower stomach and right in front.  I don't know if this is normal or if I should tell my Dr. about it or wait till my next appointment which is Monday?

  • I would call he said to call if any little change or pains happen. It sounds like he wants a reason to move you up in the OR since it is booked. He is probably thinking if you start having pains he can use that as the reason to move you up. Just a guess.

  • Your situation sounds like mine. (I have GD, not sure if you do). We had our 36+2wk growth scan today and she is estimated about 9lbs right now. Her stomach is measuring over 42 wks and doc doesn't want me going into labor on my own due to how big her tummy is. Our hospital won't allow anything to happen before 39wks unless medical emergency so we're here until my RCS date of Aug 21st or if I go into labor. (I'm also borderline pre-e but we really hope that don't happen).

I am having all kinds of aches, pains, pressure that is much different than my other pregnancies but I would also call and see what he says. Never hurts!! My doc said any little thing I should call about as well. Wishing you the best!

  • Before you panic too much, keep in mind the U/S can be off by a few pounds. I was forced to have a c-section with DD because the Dr said she was weighing in at 9+ lbs. After all I went through, she was 7lbs 12oz. Even with this pregnancy the U/S tech 2 weeks ago said he is going to be very small & was weighing in at only 5 lbs 2oz and that he will only gain a pound or so by the c/s date. She also said I had over 12 inches of fluid. But then Thursday this other tech said he's weighing in at 6 lbs 8 oz & she couldn't find much fluid to even measure so I now have to report to L&D tomorrow to have my RCS if the fluid is still low. She also said they can be off by a bunch!

Even with them saying he is tiny, I have so much pressure, sharp pains, & sometimes when I stand up I feel like I have to hold up the bottom of my belly. I am carrying way smaller than I did with DD.
