Toddler ear wax build-up

Yeah, actual gross toddler question.  At DS's appt. last week, the ped said one ear is 1/2 full and the other 3/4 full of wax. Lovely.  She suggested a few drops of mineral oil in his ear before bed.  Fine, doing that for week now.  Nothing is coming out though.  My mom thought I should be flushing his ears with water but ped didn't say to do that.  Anyone have experience with this?

DS had a wax build up and the per said to do the same thing. This was after she went in and pulled out all the goop, so I don't know if it works when it's already impacted, but she said it would keep the wax from building up.

I wouldn't flush his ears with water unless the doctor says to.  Do you remember getting water stuck in your ear as a kid?  I hated that.
