Yesterday we had our evaluation and I feel so much better now that it's over. LO is eligible for help he has delays in fine motor, communication, and gross motor. It was hard to hear when he told us that some of his skills are at 7 month level, but now my worrying can be turned into determination for getting him the help he needs. I did have one concern I'm wondering if anyone else experienced, the PT yesterday pointed out that he doesnt use his left arm and leg when army crawling and boht were tight when she did a few tests on him, has anyone else experienced this with their LO and if so what was the outcome. She asked if he had experienced any brain bleeds at birth and the answer is no, but what else can cause this and what is the treatment?
Re: Update: EI evaluation
Does he show weakness in his left side any other time other than crawling (i.e., plays with right side, eats with right hand)? My DD only crawls with her left side (right side drags). She is a few months delayed as well in fine/gross motor skills. EI has helped us A LOT. Your mind set is in the right direction.
She had a stroke when she was born. This is probably something a neurologist / MRI could answer best for you. Good luck!
DS2 (almost 3yr) has left sided weakness. His left hand he pretty much ignores and his left leg he drags a bit when he uses his walker and can't lift it as high as his right leg. He is also tight in his legs and arms (when doing diaper changes when he was little I would have to "break" the tone in his legs and bend them so I could complete it). My son has cerebral palsy. It was diagnosed at just shy of 10mos old. A MRI showed PVL (periventricular leukomalacia) which helped solidy the CP diagnosis. He did not experience any brain bleeds. DS gets speech, physical, occupational, and feeding therapy. He has obvious delays in gross and fine motor skills and his speech and feeding therapies have really helped to where we can lower how often we go! We are going to have gross and fine motors delays for awhile yet.
Maybe you have answered this already, but have you noticed this lack of using his left hand/leg and tightness prior to the evaluation? For me, I didn't get what the tightness was at the time. Also, does this only occur during crawling?
