Did anyone else become friends on Facebook with their NICU nurses? Just curious! Also, did you get your primary nurses anything as a "thank you?" What did you get them?
We didn't become FB friends with our nurses - but we have been back a few times to bring the gals (there weren't any male nurses in there the whole time we were there...) but we have brought them all sorts of treats. The big coffee cakes from Panera are all around 10-12 bucks each - and we have purchased those to bring over there (even though we have been out for quite some time). Our friends that we met in the cube next to us bought them all pizza one night... it is just tough because there are around 30 nurses in there, and some float out to the main OB floor, and then they sometimes have only 2 nurses on, and other days they would have 5-8... it depended on how busy the NICU was.
They also LOVE twizzlers - we have picked up a few containers of those from Sams Club for them. lol They are easy to carry out - individually wrapped, and they just were always talking about how much they loved them. lol. I would also bring them fun containers of treats and fun stuff from Trader Joes. My next project to make and drop off is a wreath made out of tea bags for them to have during the day - I saw it on pinterest and I thought it looked like a nice idea. I know a few of them always had a mug of tea while we were there. Sadly - we never really had a "primary" nurse - they all swapped out each day.
I am FB friends with several of our favorite NICU nurses. Our NICU doesn't do "primary" nursing but we brought a large thank you cake on our discharge day.
Yes! We did. I am also facebook friends with the NICU nurse practioner, but I knew her beforehand because she is my diet coach and has also coached my MIL into losing 25 lbs. We have also attended at benefit fundraiser for our hospital's NICU/pediatric units and got to see a lot of the nurses and doctor's there. The nurse I am FB friends with, we were very close in the NICU and she was one of the co-chairs of the benefit.
Since our GI is also at the hospital, we also try to visit.
I'm not FB friends with any of them, but I did exchange email addresses with a couple and gave them the link to my blog that has pics of the girls.
While we were in the NICU, I brought them cookies, bagels, pasteries...food for the group. We also had a lot of nurses and I ddn't want to leave any of them out. There was even one nurse who always had the girls at night who I never met, so I wanted to make sure she wasn't missed.

2 IUIs & 1 IVF = BFN
FET#1 = It's a girl! Born 7.1.10
FET#2 = c/p
FET#3 = Twin girls! Born on 3.16.12 at 33w2d due to severe pre-E. After 4 weeks in the NICU they are home!
Yes - we were in there for 147 days, so we became very close with many of them. We are either FB friends or exchanged emails with all his primaries, and some of the other "regular" nurses too - probably about 10 of them (We were in a very large NICU with over 150 nurses).
When we left, we got all his primaries gift cards for spa finder, along with a personalized note of thanks. A few times while he was in the NICU we brought in food - muffins, a sheet cake once (on his 100th day, and bagels - something that everyone could share.

Only with two of them, who were extra special/close with me while we were in there (and one LC).
As a thank you I made them a huge batch of fudge (for the whole dept) and wrote them a long, heartfelt letter along with one of his BA's.
I am not Facebook friends with any of our NICU nurses other than the two that I was already friends with.
As far as nice things for them. We were lucky enough to have a friend whose daughter owns a Chick-fil-a. She provided us with a couple nugget platters, fruit, and brownie trays. Sweet tea and lemonade along with all the plates and utensils for it. We did that over Christmas since they were in there then. On Blake's last day we brought in some different snacks and then when Brooklyn left we brought them several boxes of chocolate fruit from edible arrangements.
We are taking them our preemie clothes once a friend of a friend is done using Blake's and I plan on doing something then too.
I became fb friends with a couple of the nurses but they initiated it and we are technically co-workers bc I'm a nurse on another unit. I got our primary nurse a coffee mug and starbucks gift cert because she's obsessed with coffee. But I gave it to her discretly because I didn't want to hurt anyone elses feeling.

Hope this helps Pooka!
