Thank you all so much for your responses. This week has been pure hell. I am so thankful that we got in to see Dr Gold so quickly. He was fabulous, I highly recommend him. The office staff was awesome. While getting weighed and measured B puked all over me. I had 5 nurses wiping him and me off.
It turns out that Brennan was not getting the full effects of the medicine that our ped gave us b/c the only way I could get him to take it was in formula, well guess what? When given with formula it doesn't neutralize the stomach acid and basically does nothing, so I thought I was medicating B, but I wasn't and that is why we have had the week from hell. I feel SO bad and I am also pissed that my ped said nothing about how to administer the medication and the pharmacist told me to put it in some formula. WRONG! So, always ask 9 million questions of your pediatrician. She handed me the script and didn't tell me 1) that the medicine could only be obtained at a compounding pharmacy and 2) That I could give it in a bottle with a TBSP of water but that he needed to have it BEFORE the formula. Ask questions to the point where you are annoying if you have to. I didn't and just ASSumed that Publix could handle it and that I could mix it in the bottle no problem.
Now the plan is to give him double the dosage of the same med 2x per day with 1 tbsp of water in a bottle to get him to take it down and to give malox in between so that he doesn't have any break through discomfort. Dr. G also helped me get him comfortable in the infant car seat and we had our first ride that didn't include blood curdling screaming. I think I love him. He is right up there with the dr who administered my epidural during labor. Not sure who I love more lol.
I am so glad that I got B an appointment so quickly and that we are on the road to some relief. Thank you all again for your advice and support, this has been a really rough week.
Re: Reflux update
I am glad you finally got some answers. I know the feeling. Last winter when Isaac was in and out of the pedi every other week and I never saw the same dr I was at the end of my rope when someone finally took time to help him get better, not just react to his symptoms. She said what are you doing now and I told her then we went over how to change his routine to keep his breathing normal and now he is off his meds and doing great and finally gained some weight.
Its so tough with babies when they cannot tell you what is wrong. I am so glad B is doing better and I will continue to T&P for him that this is the right road to full relief.
