I stopped by our church just now to drop some stuff off for the priest.
Secretary was cooing over my oldest, then saw there was a baby in the stroller too. She looked taken aback, asked their ages. When I told her, she said, "So they're only 15 months apart? That's very close, isn't it?" in a snotty tone.
Now to back up. I was there for a PREIST. As in, we are Catholic. Where birth control is a no-no. Regardless of whether or not we were using BC, what do you want, lady?
I won't even touch on the fact that my youngest was a late-PREEMIE, which accounts for some of the closeness.
I hate people sometimes.
Re: Gem from Church Secretary
I don't think I've ever posted on this board, but as a fellow Catholic, this made me LOL. Maybe you should have said something like, "Yeah, DH and I tried the rhythm method, but then the beat changed, and we got all screwed up."
Of course, being almost 19 weeks pg and very hormonal, I might have been just plain snarky and said "Gotta love the hypocrisy of the Church! Preach against BC and then judge somebody when their kids aren't spaced!"
I know exactly how you feel. My DH and I are Catholic as well and when we found out that we were expecting our second (they would be 12mo apart) we definately got looks when we were at mass on Sunday. Now that #3 is on the way (12mo between #2 and #3) we get even more looks. My response to them is always, "Well this was God's plan for me to be able to stay home and raise my family." ( Up until June I was a Catholic School teacher in a school that was closing at the end of the year.)
I agree, it is amazing how they teach/preach one thing, but then make you feel bad when you have followed the teaching.
Love it!
