Olympics Scandal- Badminton

Scandal has rocked the Badminton World. Both China and South Korea were disqualified for trying to loose the match. You should watch the video. Both teams suck at trying to loose. Pretty funny.

  • Well shoot, I can't see the video. But I'm glad they took action against them. What's an Olympic games without scandal?
  • imageBostonKisses2:
Yeah, they did suck at trying to lose.  I'm glad that they took action against them for this though.

I don't really understand what was so bad about it.  I didn't watch the video, but I heard about it.  It seems more like something they need to change with the system rather than blaming the players.  I mean in baseball they intentionally "walk" players all the time, right?  In football they work the clock by taking time outs at just the right time.  It just doesn't seem that different to me.  It's not like they're cheating.

They walk people in baseball for strategy within a game, they don't throw the whole game. They were refusing to play, were warned, and then disqualified. You should watch the video. Our toddlers could play better than that.

Except, in your examples, the teams are doing it to win not to lose. Intentionally losing or throwing a match is cheating the system.

Huh? That's not the same thing at all.  The references you made (baseball and football) are strategies to help win.  This is about intentionally trying lose.

  • Okay.  I thought they were doing it to earn an easier match up?  I thought they were intentionally trying to lose a particular match so that they could more easily win later on.

I will watch the video, I'm sure there is more to it than what I have just read.

Except an official walked on the court and warned them to step it up or they would be disqualified.  They still continued to try to lose.  Yes, I agree that they need to change the system and get rid of the round robin tournament, but the badminton federation did the right thing since these teams deliberately disobeyed the officials' warnings.

    Gotcha, that makes sense.
