Re: Pregnant (& TTC) after a Preemie check in 8/1/12

  • Bumping from the hospital today. My previa had a nice big bleed yesterday morning. I'll be here for 2-4 more days. So it's not if, just a matter of when preemie #2 arrives. If he's late term like DS1, I can totally do it again. If its really early when I bleed again, I'm not sure how I'll handle it. They don't think the previa will resolve at this point, so best case scenario is an amnio at 36 weeks with a c-section after. I'm bummed, but happy things are going as well as they are. There is a lady down the hall PPROMed at 30 weeks and I feel for her. Anyway, time to put on my big girl panties and take what life throws at me. Thanks.

  • Sorry for the multiple posts above. Having internet issues and it won't let me delete them, either. I've had a too eventful last few days. I started feeling a tightening of my uterus Tuesday night and it just felt tight and heavy - something I haven't felt before. After an hour or so, and trying different positions to get it to relax without success, I called labor and delivery and they told me to come in and to pack a bag. Insert major freak out. This was so eerily reminiscent of when things started going wrong with my first pregnancy. Minor bleeding was the issue then but driving to the hospital in the middle of the night, making the long, desolate walk from the ER (night entrance) to L&D, and I was sobbing by the time i walked into L&D and past the NICU where we spent so much time. Anyway, I was finally able to collect myself once i was taken into a room that looked completely different than any room I had been in last time. I got hooked up on all the monitors and the heartbeat sounded great. The doctor checked my cerclage and it looked just like it should, and my cervix was closed. I had already scheduled OB appts for the morning so she sent me home. I was so, so, so elated to hear the words, "I'm going to send you home." !!!!! Last time we fully expected to be sent home but I ended up hospitalized for the rest of my pregnancy. This time, though we were only home in bed for a few hour before we had to get up and go back for appts, it was so, so wonderful to go home but a little unnerving to not know what the tightening was or what was really going on. The tightening changed a bit to tightening, relaxing a little though not fully relaxed, and then retightening over sporadic intervals but lasted about 10 hours in all. Any ideas on what it was? Things checked out good again at the morning appointments. Ultrasound looked good, cervix looked good, no UTI, and got my first p17 shot (not bad). I'm still wondering a bit though: were those contractions? Braxton Hicks? Something else? I never did get an answer... I have to limit activity if I feel cramping/tightening/lots of pulling/etc but no official restrictions (besides the pelvic rest) at this point and I'll be fully checked again in 2 weeks. Sorry for the novel (and lack of paragraphs - iPad). I hope everyone else has a much less eventful week!

  • I forgot to add...it's a BOY! Loud and clear. I am thrilled with a boy but completely in shock as I've had a super strong girl feeling and been calling baby a girl since the beginning. Oops!

Did they not hook you up to see if your contracting? I'm thinking you were having braxton hicks contractions. I hope you get some rest. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

I forgot to include that part. They did hook me up but said my uterus must have been too small to pick up contractions yet because they didn't pick up anything definitive. Thanks for the thoughts and prayers.

Do Braxton Hicks tighten and stay tight for a long time (45 minutes - a few hours) without relaxing and then contracting again? I guess in my mind, for whatever reason, I thought it would be contracting, relaxing, contracting, relaxing maybe only staying tight for a few minutes but this tightness just stayed and stayed in the beginning, for at least an hour I'd say. Then again, my uterus isn't too big yet so it isn't real obvious or easy to tell when it tightens, etc... Hmmmm...

Sad, I can't really answer your question, because I'm not sure if I have ever had braxton hicks contractions. I have had the real thing, and those contractions were on top of each other, at least they were at the end. Hugs I hope you start to feel better soon.

  • I'm stillllllll PG! Whoo hoo!

I have weekly biophysical ultrasounds and dr appt to check for HELLP/pre-e.

Had a scare a week ago and ended up in l+d, but it turned out to be nothing.

So far, so good. Dr thinks I'll start having issues around week 37/38. I hope I make it that long!
