Natural Birth

Finally getting prepared at 32 weeks

A little bit of back story for you: DH and I have been planning to move out of state since December of last year.  We have had some delays to the move due to a car accident that my husband was in January 2011 while on the job.  We have been waiting for resolution to get the go ahead to move, so I had been procrastinating getting everything ready for delivery here, hoping we would have the new baby in Oregon.  We found out this month, that it could be up to 9 more months before we have final resolution on DH case.  I have been seeing an OB throughout my pregnancy, but he seemed to be a real intervention pusher (telling me I couldn't have a baby over 9 pounds, being super critical of my weight gain, when I am on target to gain 35 pounds, etc) and I didn't want to have to fight for a natural birth while in labor.  That being said, I decided to start getting prepared for a more ideal setting and supportive environment for my natural birth.

Today I had my last appointment with my OB.  I also got my first appointment set up with a new midwife.  Saturday morning, I get to tour the hospital that my midwife can deliver at, and that afternoon I am meeting with the student doula that has offered to help us for free.  This weekend we also bought a lot of the items we were trying to avoid buying before the move, but now have to get for the baby such as a car seat.  8 weeks to go and I finally feel a bit more prepared.  Glad to no longer be in limbo about what is going to happen, and to finally have a plan in place that I feel comfortable with.

Thanks for reading. Just felt like I needed to share my relief with some people that would understand.

Re: Finally getting prepared at 32 weeks

  • Glad things are cOming together. I went into labor just before 36 weeks and had to send DH to the store for diapers... You can never be ready too early. I hope you like your new MW.

  • I hear you--I moved midway through my second trimester and it was so stressful to be in limbo like that!  Not knowing and not being prepared in the way I would have liked was scary.  I honestly think that finding a MW and practice I was happy with was the most stressful part of the move (partially because I loved my former MW and partially because my new area is not as, well, crunchy as my old area and it was an uphill battle finding someone).

Good luck and so glad you've made a switch to a MW you're more comfortable with!
