Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Which potty do you recomend?

I wane buy my LO a potty for his birthday. I looked around and there is quiet a selection. The just regular ones or the ones which are like actual toilette ( flush, sound...) Now I am wondering which would be the best. If I buy the one with the noise and flush does he see it more like a toy??? Do you have any experience or suggestions? Thanks

    We have several since we live in a 2-story and one's at the grandparents.  We have a Disney princess one that I really like.  the seat is a nice cushion and upon removing the cushion you can put a part of the seat over the toilet if you prefer it that way.  We also have the standard potty chair that's the seat with the little bucket to catch the pee and poo.  You could also choose to get the one that hooks onto the toilet seat but that's a gamble.  A friend of mine's did that with her first and when it came time to PT her second her DD refused to sit on the big toilet.  It scared her.  What I will recommend is the Pottette (sp?) travel potty seat.  I love it.

  • I started potty training at 6 months with the Baby Bjorn extra comfort potty chair.  I have a little boy and it has a decent splash guard to keep his pee from going everywhere.  I went with this potty for a variety of reasons;

    -It's small enough that I can transport it.  (When we go shopping, I take it with us and leave it in the car)

    -It's short enough that he can crawl to it and put himself on it.

    -It is basic, no bells and whistles.  Potty time isn't play time and I want him to know that the only function of the potty is to go potty.

    -It's easy to empty out and clean.

    If you have any other questions let me know!!  Good luck!

  • Thank you for sharing your experience. So you think buying him a Sesame Street one or other fun kind would make him think its a toy? How is it going with your potty training?

  • I haven't seen the Seasame Street one, but knowing my LO, he would get distracted and be more interested in playing with the bells and whistele than going potty.  Without knowing how easily distracted your kiddo is, I can't say if he would do the same.

    Potty training is much easier than I expected.  I have cleaned up less than 5 poopy diapers since he was 7 months old.  He still wears a diaper as he doesn't have complete bladder control.  In the morning, his first pee of the day is like a grown man pee, he just keeps going and going.  His overnight diaper is barely wet which is awesome that he is learning to hold it over night.  He also holds his pee when we swim.  That being said, he is still a little boy and I have caught him standing up and peeing on the carpet after his bath when he is running around naked.

  • We have a Baby Bjorn potty. It's simple and not very expensive.

  • My husband and I have 4 sons and one thing I am sure about is that not one of them followed the same system when it came to potty training.  Your little one could take to this like a duck to water or fight it like veggie's at dinner time :)  The one thing that we did that was universal was use a seat stool combination it is cheaper and you don't have to keep buying the next lever of seat.  By doing this they can start with their own version of a little potty and then let them choose when they want to move up.

    Which ever way you move forward watching your child advance and grow independent is really a exciting time, Enjoy.

    Sincerely,
