Birthing/Childcare Classes

A few questions, probably silly questions, but humor me.

1) If you are taking classes: which ones?

2) When are you planning to take them? Now? Closer to due date?

3) Are you taking them at the hospital you are delivering at, somewhere else? or does it not really matter where?

4) Do you find these classes expensive or is it just me?

The hospital where I am delivering has three different classes that I would like to take: Childcare, Lamaze, and Breastfeeding and it seems they are all at least $60 a class and all the Saturday classes are filled for months and only have tues/thurs night classes.  I just am wishing I find a place with cheaper classes.

We are taking a class.  It's a childcare/lamaze class rolled into one.  We are choosing to do the 1 Saturday class (8 hours) and are doing it at the beginning of November.  It's $125/couple and the breastfeeding class is free a week later.  It is at the hospital I am giving birth at.

Haven't signed up for anything yet, still not sure what I want to sign up for. Our classes only are out for 2 months at a time, so I have time.

    $80 is the average here.

The only ones I have seen around here at the ones at the hospital.

I am taking classes but not sure which ones yet. They are free at the hospital I am delivering at (only hospital out here) and my doctor told me to call at about 26 weeks to start taking them at 30. I am planner and it's driving me nuts not to know what classes they have so I can look into more if needed so I may call next week and talk to someone.

My hospital offers childbirth classes and they are free. I believe they have the standard ones, labor/childbirth, a newborn class and breastfeeding. We did not do them though and paid for Bradley Method classes as we wanted something that was geared towards natural childbirth. Depending on the instructor the classes can be several hundred dollars.

Since cost is an issue for you, I would look and see if another hospital nearby you offers them for free. You could take classes at my hospital, even if you didn't plan on delivering there.

I signed us up for three. All were costly, all at the hospital I'll deliver at. My insurance does offer a $50 reimbursement for the childbirth class, yours may too?

    1. The basic childbirth class (which was supposed to include a hospital tour, but now doesn't - annoying). Went with the condensed 1-day version you did, in late October.

    2. Prenatal breastfeeding in early November

    3. "The Happiest Baby" class in early October.

    1) If you are taking classes: which ones? I took breastfeeding and chilbirth

    2) When are you planning to take them? Now? Closer to due date? I was due in July and took the classes in June.

    3) Are you taking them at the hospital you are delivering at, somewhere else? or does it not really matter where?  I took them both at the hospital I delivered at, which is the closest hospital to home.  I wouldn't have had a problem taking them elsewhere if it were more convenient or less expensive.

     4) Do you find these classes expensive or is it just me? I paid $60 each for both of the classes I took. Insurance reimbursed me for both.

    1) Bradley, probably, but now a good friend recommended Birthwise, so I need to check that out.

    2) If Bradley, then our classes will begin in September.

    3) Not at the hospital. Our hospital doesn't offer classes, but there is a Lamaze class held there. My midwives discouraged Lamaze, though.

    4) Yes, a bit. But I figure they'll help me avoid the thousands of $$ that come with medical interventions.

All of the Bradley classes I found are $275 each. Those vary from 10 to 12 sessions and cover pain-med free birthing, breastfeeding and infant care.

Honestly, if I didn't want to go med-free, then I would probably just do an infant CPR class and a breastfeeding class.

The hospital I work at offers an 8 week course that's free.  It doesn't teach Lamaze but it covers most of the other bases: maternity ward and nursery tour, financing, genetic counselling, physiotherapy for pregnancy discomfort, nutrition for pregnancy, normal labour and delivery, relaxation exercises in pregnancy, alternate methods of delivery and post natal care, immunizations, normal gross, fine and speech and language development, breast feeding and infant CPR.

I started my classes yesterday.  Sometimes it's kinda boring at but a lot of the information is really useful and you can't knock it if its free!

I am taking the labor and delivery class offered through our hospital.  It is 5 weeks long and I'll start the first weekend in November.  The cost was $100/couple.

We are taking a childbirth/Lamaze class that also touches on child care. Also, taking a breastfeeding class.

The class runs over several weeks so we are starting in mid September with them ending in October (just because the next one ended right at my due date and I didn't want to miss the last ones).

We are taking it at the hospital we are delivering at because they offer a tour etc. and I want to get a look at the rooms beforehand.

I think the Lamaze class was $90 and the breastfeeding one is $30.

We had the option to take the Lamaze class on one Saturday but I was afraid that it would be too much info to soak in one day, thats why we are spacing it out.

    1. Baby Care Basics, The Art of Breastfeeding, Preparing for Childbirth.  And DH is taking Boot Camp for Dads.  :)

    2.  They are all before Nov. 1st, taking the Childbirth one closest to EDD.

    3.  Taking them at the hospital we are delivering at.

    4.  They are all free, offered as a courtesy to expectant mothers by the hospital, except for the Daddy Boot Camp one, it's $10.

A few questions, probably silly questions, but humor me.

    1) If you are taking classes: which ones?  I will be taking a BF class, and a c/s class.  I took the BF class, and a delivery and childcare class with DS.

    2) When are you planning to take them? Now? Closer to due date?  There are only 2 c/s classes between now and my EDD one in October and one in December.  I'm hoping for the October one.

    3) Are you taking them at the hospital you are delivering at, somewhere else? or does it not really matter where?  Hospital

    4) Do you find these classes expensive or is it just me?  My insurance paid for all my classed last time and I'm assuming they will cover them this time as well.  I don't think $60 per class is that expensive.

I am taking a breastfeeding class next week just because the holidays will be so busy for us. That is $30 and at my hospital.

Our BRU offers breastfeeding classes at no charges one weekend a month. I was going to attend this but my Doctor suggested taking it at the hospital since the teacher is a lactation specialist at the hospital that I will deliver at.

In September, we are doing a baby essentials class at the hospital and its $50 per couple.
