Babies: 0 - 3 Months

another formula question

I"m not doing well with the feeding thing! Has anyone used the liquid concentrate formula? I think I need to stop the powder...the baby keeps spitting up. I'm wondering how the liquid works. How do u store what's left in the metal can? Thanks

Re: another formula question

  • as far as i know, there is no difference between powder and liquid. we use both and get the same results.

has your baby been checked for reflux? ?

  • Have you tried different types of formula, like the soy? I had heard the added iron is what makes the babies spit up.
  • maybe just try switching to another kind of powdered formula?

  • Babies will spit up.  It's natural.

FYI the liquid is a lot, lot, lot more expensive than powder.  Right now your baby is probably not eating much but just wait.  My DS eats 6-7 oz bottles every 4 or so hours.  The expense w/pre-made would add up fast.

  • I just switched to liquid a few days ago and it has changed my baby! He's so much happier now, and no hour long screaming fits every night.

I mix a whole can at once and split it into bottles. The cans of Goodstart we buy make just over 25 oz. If you don't mix the formula with water you can leave it in the can in the fridge. Check the can for more details (if you peel the label off there may be more directions on the inside.

I'm so happy we switched. We'll still use powder when we're on the go since we find it more convenient. I do find the liquid isn't as convenient but it's so worth it!

  • FYI - the liquid concentrate is only about a penny more per oz than powder.

It's the ready to feed that's really expensive.

Our Dr. actually recommended liquid for gassy babies.

  • I would make an appt. to see the Ped., my one twin has reflux and that was causing her to have a lot of trouble, not just spitting up. If it is not reflux it could be you need a gentler on the stomach formula or maybe just burping after every ounce, that helped me a lot. My babies signs for reflux was the spitting up, but also a stiff back when I was trying to feed her (she would not bend into my arms to eat), crying through feedings like she was terribly uncomfortable. Your ped. will be able to help you with this problem. I am pretty sure the ready to eat and the powder are pretty much the same, just more expensive than the powder, so that probably is not going to solve your problem.

My one twin is on Zantac for her reflux and she is so much better now and we didn't have to change her formula which would have been a pain to have the babies on different formulas, I can see us getting the bottles mixed up and feeding to the wrong baby.

Hope things get better for you.

  • Have you tried switching to another formula? Sometimes that takes care of the problem. Or you could bring up the possibility of acid reflux to your pedi. I don't think switching from formula to liquid concentrate would make a difference (but I could be wrong).
