I don't think this will ever be a true contender (DH didn't seem to receptive) but what are your thoughts on Kieran? I saw this name the other night watching the Olympics and really liked it.

My friend named her son this and she's constantly reminding people how to pronounce it. She pronounces it like "Kai-run", a lot of people think it's "Kee-ran"

See the other night they pronounced it Kehr-uhn and one announcer said Key-er-an).

Weird...I have never heard of that pronunciation before. Kieran/Ciaran is really popular in Ireland and is pronounced Keer-an.
I love it spelled Ciaran, like it a lot spelled Kieran.

EDIT I like the name. I am sorry for my confusing thoughts below.
I have not heard your friend's prounounciation before. I have known a few guys with this name and they didn't say it like you.
EDIT If I heard it prounounced the way your friend says it I would think it was wrong. Poster directly above, that's how I have always heard it, I suppose the Irish way. Wouldn't that actually be the correct way. (If that is the Irish way of spelling and pronounciation)

"Kai-run" sounds made up to me.

However my BIL just named their daughter Keira, so Kieran is out for us.
