January 2011 Moms

What was I thinking!

I just put DD down in her new room, and big girl bed for the 1st time.  Took her 2 min to climb out of the bed.  Then I heard her at the door trying to open it and saying "mommy".  I was very optomistic about the bed because she loves playing on the it and in her new room.

On a positive note she's not screaming, but I'm not sure what she is doing. The video monitor is pointed on her bed.

Has anyone moved their LO to a bed yet?  Are there any tips or tricks?

  • I am afraid of the big boy bed transition.  Sorry I have no advice for you, hope it goes well.  I do not see my son staying in bed at all.

  • No, there is no way my LO would stay in a big bed right now. We actually had to rig the mattress even lower that it is supposed to go, because she was climbing out on the lowest setting.

Good luck,  I hope it gets easier!!!

All of this. We're waiting at least 7 more years, lol. Ok, maybe some time in 2013, but seriously, I'm scared.

HAHA good idea!  Thankfully if she doesn't take to it in the next 2 months my sister has offered us her crib when she moves my niece to a bed, who is 2 1/2.

I'm also in no rush to move DD to a big bed. If there were a way to put a top on the crib to avoid her climbing out I totally would. (She doesn't climb out now and we're hoping she doesn't figure it out.)

    What ended up happening?

I finally went in after an hour to find her sitting in the middle of her floor clutching her two fav stuffed animals.  So, I tried laying down with her but she thought it was play time.  So, I caved and she went in the crib.

Of course after her nap in the crib she played in her new room and said she wanted to go night-night in there.  Guess I'll just keep trying, hopefully she'll figure it out.

That actually do sell tents that go over the crib!

JT isn't climbing out of his crib yet (which is a shocker, he climbs on everything else) so we got a 2nd crib. I'm in no hurry either. He sleeps well now, I don't want to mess with that!

  • I dread making the change from crib to bed.  Joshua will probably climb the walls or break out of the house or something ridiculous like that.

  • It was probably a little early, but we switched her at one year. She does alright some nights other nights she gets out and fusses and then falls asleep on the floor. I just move her to the bed on those nights. For awhile she would crawl back into bed after crying for a bit, but now she's back to sleeping on the floor when she crawls out. I think it may have something to do with her ear infection lately.

Yeah, yesterday I did naptime again.  I didn't push it but asked her if she wanted to sleep in her bed.  She gathered her stuffed animals and crawled into bed. She ended up sleeping on the floor which is fine with me.

However, I'm not ready to switch her at night because in 2 weeks we're going to the beach and I want her in the PNP.  Last night when I said night-night time she went to crawl into her bed.  So, I'm going to hold off on the bed until we get back from the beach.

I think she'll take to it and like you said there are always some bad nights.  I don't want to confuse her with naps in the bed and nighttime in the crib.
