6 Week Old with Acid Reflux

My LO is 6 weeks old and has acid reflux.  I have been elevating his head when he sleeps, keeping him upright for 20 min after feedings and burping more often.  The worst part is that he has horrible tummy aches that bother him every night starting around 8:00pm.  When he sleeps he's very unsettled and will always spit up at night.  I am breast feeding and eat a very safe diet - I don't even eat dairy. His bowel movements aren't very regular and still a greenish yellow and sometimes muscusy.  At night he will get fussy while nursing as he tries to "push" as if he's going to the bathroom.  Nothing seems to help him - any ideas or advice?

Re: 6 Week Old with Acid Reflux

  • Sounds just like our 5 1/2 week old.  I haven't figured out what to do yet either except bicycle kicks which seems to help w/ her gas.  She does the same "push" thing while eating too.

  • My LO (5 and a half weeks) also has acid reflux and has been put on zantac. This has helped him a lot with the spit ups. Good luck! I hope your little one gets some relief soon.

  • Thanks for your replies!  I heard dill water is supposed to help.  I would rather avoid medication unless it doesn't get any better.  I wish there was more that I could do.
  • I've tried Mylacon drops and they don't seem to work anymore.  He's on a probiotic also.  Any benefits of gripe water?  My pediatrician said if the gas drops aren't working then it won't likely work either.
  • My LO is 7 weeks and has been on Zantac since he was 2 weeks. It helped some but not completely so then I took myself off dairy and that has seemed to make up the difference. He only has a BM about once every other day. My Ped said that was perfectly normal for a breasfed baby and that some go up to 10 days. As long as the color and consistency are normal not to worry.
