Baby Names

Can you please give me some girl name ideas?

We have two names (Gianna and Mila) that are keeping at the top of our list.  But neither of them do I feel definite about.

Other names on my 'meh, it is decent' list are Liliana & Aliana.

I'm wondering if I should take a different approach to this naming game.  So I'm here to ask for help and suggestions.

My son's name is Robert.  What girl siblings names go with that?  His name is a family name, but for girl's I seem to prefer somewhat less common names (or at least not the top 10 names), but I don't want something crazy unique.

Suggestions?

  • Hmmm...Gianna and Mila sound Italian to me, so perhaps you are Italian or like that style of name? If so, some others that come to mind are:

    Juliana

    Gabriella

    Francesca

    Ava (pretty popular though)

    Natalia

When I think of Robert, I think of simple, classic names like Jane, Anne, Sarah, Grace.  But it seems from your girls' list that maybe you're going for a something a little more unique...good luck!

  • Both Gianna and Mila are nice choices.

As far as what "goes with" Robert, here are my thoughts:

Go classic. Robert is a really nice name that has a strong, regal sound. Unfortunately, paired with the wrong name, it could look kind of dated. For instance, a sibset like Robert and Susan or Robert and Beverly would make it sound like your children are about 50 years old.

On the other hand, something like Robert and Brooklyn or Robert and Aubrey would emphasize how much "older" of a name Robert is.

If you go classic, though, like Robert and Elizabeth, Robert and Lillian, Robert and Victoria, Robert and Catherine, etc. matches the names well and emphasizes both names' strong, timeless qualities.

  • I agree with PP -- try to find a timeless, classic name.

Some ideas that seem to fit your style for girl's names:

    Antonia

    Anna

    Angela

    Cecilia

    Camilla

    Christina

     Elena

    Diana

    Johanna

    Laura

    Leila

    Lydia

    Vivian

    Sara

    Julia

  • I prefer Gianna.  My issue is that, half the time, people pronounce it incorrectly (people pronounce it with 3 syllables when it is a 2 syllable name).

  • I agree that something more classic is the way to go.

Caroline, Charlotte, Abigail, Emily, Georgia, Juliana, Julia, Jacqueline, Victoria, Alice, Rebecca, Catherine, Susannah, Felicity, Cecily, Eleanor, Claire?

  • I've never heard it pronounced anything but Gee-AHN-Na, so I'm confused by the 2 syllable post. And I have friends w/ a kid w/ this name, do some people say "Gina"?

I love that name honestly, I'd use it if we didn't have close friends w/ a kid named that.

    The correct pronunciation is Jah-nah

  • I've seen it on baby name sites with two separate punctuations.   We say "Gee-ah-na", however my two year old says "Jah-Na"

I don't know if i feel like either way is the 'right way.'

It's an Italian name and the correct pronunciation is Jah-nah.   Many people mispronounce it as Gee-ah-na or Gee-anna, and those pronunciations have become commonplace.
