FF LOs... I got ?s

Hi mommys, I've got a couple of questions regarding you LOs and formula. (I've only got BF babies in my family)

What color/consistency is the poop? My DDs can be either mustard colored to an army green color and its the consistency of playdoh (sp?). Normal?

Do you warm up the milk or serve room temperature? I wonder if serving the milk either way makes a difference on the gas/fussiness and colic?

If you changed to a different formula, how long did you stay with it before changing to another formula? A week, a few days?

Thank you!

  • I BF and FF when breast milk isn't enough. Her poop is yellowy green and can go anywhere from peanutbutter to a little harder sometimes.  When I changed formula I gave it about 3 weeks or so to see if it works.  I also warm up her water because it does make a difference on how it mixes...especially w/ target brand it HAS to be w/ warm water or it doesn't al disolve.  I noticed w/ Enfamil or Similac it wasn't quite as necessary.

  • DS' poop is usually yellowish, but we've seen greenish brown too. Our pedi told us anything firmer than peanut butter at this age usually means constipation, so playdoh seems kind of firm to me. We've always served his formula room temperature, and he'll even take them cold from the fridge. He has only spit up 3 times ever, and has very little gas.

  • My LO's poop is mustard color with what looks like seeds in it. The consistency is looser than playdoh. I'd say it's more like peanut butter.

I don't warm up the formula. I used room temperature bottled water for the first 6 weeks. Now I use water straight from the tap.

    I haven't switched formula.

  • LO's poop goes from mustard yellow to army green (mostly this) and is peanut butter consistency...  We usually do room temperature bottles unless it is coming from the fridge, in which case we warm it to about room temperature.

We were on Enfamil Newborn for the first 2 weeks and then I noticed his stomach gurgling a lot and he was fussy and seemed to be in pain from being gassy and somewhat constipated.  We switched to Enfamil Gentlease and I noticed a positive difference within a few days.  He is still gassy from time to time but it doesn't appear to be painful, and the gurgling stomach has definitely stopped.  They say to give it like 2 weeks before you can really know how they will react. I just give him gas drops when he seems to be really gassy.
